I've been toying with the idea of making a smaller guitar for a while. I suppose this body size is close to a 0.......or at least I bought a 0 case, and made a body to fit it. Top is Redwood, back and sides is Claro Walnut. Scale length is 23 1/4".

Nice guitar Woody. I love small short scale guitars, they always sound much bigger than anyone expects. I've made a couple of 22.875 scale models with Stella bodies and I don't think you give up much in tone. Can I ask what about the body depth at the neck and tail?

What are the neck laminations?

I have to build guitar with the zero at the fifth fret. A dred box would look weird but its hard to convince a bluegrasser that a small box will be heard. How is the volume on this one?

One does not simply, own enough guitars!

I didn't see your post for a while or I would have answered sooner. The neck is Mahogany with black fiber. Outer pieces are Honduras Mahogany, the center strip is African. I had some Mahogany that wasn't wide enough so I glued it all together. Small guitars can be fairly loud. This was a prototype, and I hadn't decided on whether I was going to sell it or not. I took it to a campground where my Brother in Law was camping to see how it held up in a group of guitars. There was several guitars, including one Brackett Slope D, a newer Martin D, a couple imports and a Mandolin. I really enjoyed jamming with them and never wished I'd taken another guitar. One of the guys playing an imported guitar asked about buying it. I sold it to him the next weekend. It's got a good bark. It compresses if you play it really hard, but that's the Redwood. It's fairly responsive, but the bridge is too heavy.(34 grams) I like a bigger bridge footprint with Redwood, and shouldn't have chosen Honduran Rosewood for bridge material.

Reguarding an "A" tuned guitar, Tacoma's Papoose was the size of a Baritone Uke, and they're highly reguarded by alot of Bluegrassers, at least around here.
