tried to bend my own sides, blow-out on both upper bouts. home built bender w/heat matt, soaked mahogany for 15min. then wraped in foil and ran the temp up to 425 deg. then lowered temp to 250 for 15 min. later shut the unit down and removed it the next day. I have the steel slats plug-in mat and temp probe. the setup was steel-wood-matt-steel and sides were probably thicker than should be (.125" or so), what did I not do or do wrong? also I am going to make a parlor guitar for my granddaughter w/ spruce top and purple heart sides, back, fret board and tuneing head vineer (purple is her favorite color, 10 yrs old). any and all advice appreciated (glue,bending temps,finish problems(NITRO)). Thank you

Welcome to the forum. Well for starters don't soak your wood. Just mist lightly. Second the sides were way too thick. .085-.090 should bend much easier. Third lower your temp. Way too hot. 300 to 325 is hot enough. There are some good tutorials here. Check them out.

John : Welcome to the madness..................!! As the others have said,.125 is too thick for reliable bending. Check youtube for John Hall And Todd Stock. Good info.
