For me it looks like Plum (Prunus domestica) wood. fresh cut, so still lots of purple, which will darken to an even nice brown. But I have a bad flu at the moment and I am full with mediaction, so i may be totally wrong...

It is nice looking. Pacific rim does narrow it down some, but not much. I would guess crouch cut S.E. Asian rosewood. Or maybe Palo Escrito or Granadius.

I believe that wood to be Milo, but I confess to have an advantage...

Kingwood trees, Dalbergia cearenisis, do not grow large enough to get a back set out of. Rarely bigger tan 10" in diameter.

Thespesia Populnea, also known as milo,is correct. The trees rarely grow big enough to get guitar sets out of. A friend who was building a house in hawaii, cut down a VERY big one on his lot to build and had the trunk cut up into guitar sets. He gave me this one in my shop about six years ago. THe color has not faded at all in that many years. am finally going to build with it this winter. And yes, Jim H, rollo had an unfair advantage...he knows the guy who cut it personaly. I would tell any one who wants to see some really nice work,go to rollos web site. He does very beautiful ukes and guitars in native hawaiian koa wood and his work is first class. www.koaguitars.com.

Some of the Guitars I see that are done by individual Luthiers leaves me awe struck. The woods that are picked, the over all workmanship, designer talent and artistry amaze me. I can only hope they sound as good as they look. Beautiful guitars..!!
