Hi there folks. I'm new here but not to building - been doing it since 1976, full time since 1993...

Unable to afford the shipping and duty rates to the UK from US I build a lot of tools. Here is video of one such specifically for thicknessing the back of headstocks. The Carroll drum sander in the video is a very expensive UK design; any drum sander will do. Don't forget the dust extraction - an open window won't do laughing6-hehe

I like it. My current drill press fence consists of whatever scrap is closest to my hand and a couple of clamps. One day I'll get around to building one of these.

Thanks folks - there is always a simple way to do things - it just takes a lot of effort getting there. Over in the vid section I have pointed to some YouTube videos of my other shop built tools - Fretmaster and slotted headstock jigs. I come at this craft from an n English Cabinetmaking (furniture making for USA cousins) and design background. Lotys of problem solving and jig making as well as handwork goes into hand built furniture and it is a great training ground for lutherie... despite the number of engineers who build guitars! beehive
