I am looking for the bolt on neck insert that LMI sells, the problem is they sell it for 10 dollars a set which is really steep.

I can find the exact same hardware at McMaster Carr for much less but they do not ship outside of the US.

Is there anywhere else I can buy those hardware in bulk that ships outside of the US?

Check in a local hardware store.. It is a common furniture fastener.
I get them at the hardware stores in town for something like $1 - $2 or so per pair...

In Taiwan, hardware stores are little more than Wal Marts in the US... they only sell items that are commonly used by normal people, things like furniture fasteners are not easy to find, although I do know of fastener store who sells them (but are made of galvanized steel rather than brass). The trouble is, I have trouble finding those conical compression washers that are used to prevent the bolt from loosening.

Any idea how many per package? there isn't any information anywhere on the site... do they mean 100 per package? because 4.75 quid for ONE washer is really steep.

That is a steep price at LMI, kind of surprised actually. Anyway FWIW Steal would work fine in my opinion. And I've never seen one of mine come loose using regular old washers either.

These washers work out at £3.15 each for 10. Quite expensive I know, but worth it imo.

I'll go and check the fastener store in Taipei... there are a few of them and one of them has got to have Bevelle washer... it's so much cheaper here because I remember getting like 10 sets of bolt, insert, and split ring washer for like less than 1 US dollars. Really dirt cheap. I just wanted to see if they got brass inserts because I think they might be better than those soft steel stuff...

I have found that there are several styles of these threaded inserts.....

One has a slot that looks like you can use a screwdriver.... The other has an allen head for use with an allen wrench...

My personal preference is to use the allen head models.

If you decide to use the slotted head model - DO NOT drive it with a screwdriver... You will break off the slotted end driving it into the wood... My own method with these is to use a short socket head cap screw and an allen wrench to drive the insert into the wood... Then, unscrew the socket head cap screw out of the insert - leaving the insert in the wood.

One last tip... Be sure you pre-drill the hole large enough for the insert or you will split the neck heel... Also - be sure your hole for the insert is a deeper than you need it to be for the insert alone.... It must be able to take the insert + any extra length of the neck bolt..... If it's not deep enough for the neck bolt - the neck bolt will bottom out and will drive the insert right back out of the neck heel. That's a pain in the neck to fix....
