I bought two chunks like that several years ago from an ebay seller "thoag" or some such. It's Gabon.
But really, other than the "utility" aspect of having something to cut up for whatever I need, it is just as price efficient to buy pre-cut boards and blanks.
That's why it wasn't in the tight-wad thread!

I know a guy who still has a 3' long section from a 2' round ebony tree sitting in his workshop. Says he's going to make infill planes from it someday. I'm going to get it before that happens, I swear...he's been talking about the planes for 15 years now so odds are I'll succeed!
