hi guys im gonna be sharing some pictures of my current build.
its a classical im building for a good friend of mine
the woods this time, german spruce and guayubira (Patagonula americana) for BnS

the neck, cedar laminated with guayubira. head plate is same wood matching

shaping the block, which then after talking to my friend there were some plans changes and the guitar is going to be a cutaway so i modified the block.

this is the binding on the headstock, similar to the one on my prior guitar. i work this entirely with CA and hand pressure.

here i skiped some steps on the pictures, and im on the rossete, guayubira again for the center cirlcle, and some radial "Pinotea" , is a conifer i think Podocarpus Guatemalensis but not sure im still trying to figure it out. it was used as roofing and flooring around the 30´s, manufactured on U.S. i think.
Image
i assembly it on dry then i carefuly put some tiny drops of CA to make the ring hold it self. then take it out and glue with titebond.

all for now.

Thanks for the pictures. Could you tell us more about guayubira? I assume it's local wood for you?

Very nice progress. I'm with Jim. Tell us more about the B&S wood.

For the pictures, you can just use the [img] from the free site to imbed the full sized pictures. Somewhere in the sites setting there may be a trigger you need to tweak.

the BnS wood is indeed a local wood, mostly used for flooring, door frames and such. but some local luthiers and small guitar factories have been using it. also on electric guitar and bass tops because of the nice figuere it may have.
quite dense. I haven´t checked but im guessing around 900/1000gms per cubic dcm.
i think its rather flexible.

this set im using it was resawn from a big plank i have, and its some how darker than others ive seen.

long time since last update and i missed some steps on the photos. its taking me more time than i would have wanted. too bussy at this time of year.

here´s the box awaiting for the top. you can notice something wrong on the neck block. thats because my very good friend and future owner of the guitar, decided he wanted a cutaway a little late :)
i also put a small soundport.
Image

and here the back before and after carving the braces, they are still a bit tall. and the tapper a bit short i think.

thanks for watching any opinions are apreciated.

PD, thanks to Filippo Morelli and Alexandru Marian for generous help on this one.
Bruno.

Looks like it is almost done [:Y:] I hope it will sound good. Don't worry too much about the back braces. You can easily shave them through the sound bole if you think it lacks bass. A typical dimension for them is 8x16mm, as for the taper Torres made the braces with zero scallops, while Hauser added only a little, less than what you have there. What you did looks like an OK medium carving. Sure you can go even lower and longer if you want to make the back move some. More important is not to have the back too heavy, so if it is i the 900+ range, I wouldn't leave it thicker than 2.2mm.

It's coming along nicely.

Don't worry too much about the thumbnail images, if you click on them you get the full size photo.
