This is for you classical makers. I'm getting ready to set the neck on my first classic since 1980. Since my memory doesn't go back past breakfast, I'll need your help. When setting my straightedge on my UNfretted 1/4" fretboard, how large of a gap should I see between the top and straightedge where the saddle will be located?

thanks.

You shouldn't see a gap, a straight edge setting on a fretted fingerboard should project 3-4mm down from the top of the bridge on a classical. So I'd shoot for 4mm or so on an unfretted fingerboard.

Make sure you know all the variables.
Fret height
How high you want the action at the 12th fret.
Do you have a radiused top?

I like NO more then 10mm to the top of the saddle when it's all
fretted and strung .
7-8mm for "Flamencos"
make some spacers to put on the f.b. to set your straight edge on.
Take into account fret height & nut height.

this works for me and many other makers.

Mike
