The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Is this the right thread to post this? I used the search function and I didn't get any results for this. I thought this thread might be the right place. Is it? Am I infected because I posted here? Should I be wearing a condom? Gloves? A mask? This is all so confusing which is why I wanted to post this in the first place.

Another problem with Anthrax, be it the virus, the band, or simply an infectious thread about it, is that its difficult to get rid of. Like this thread for example. It had dropped off of the first page of "Active Topics" and seemed to have been forgotten. Then, all of a sudden, it's back like a clingy ex-girlfriend or that potato salad that was in the sun too long before you ate it and suddenly, hours later, you find yourself becoming best friends with your toilet as the potato salad makes a speedy and messy exit from your system along with everything you had eaten for the last several days.
