Hi all,

I was on another guitar forum (sorry  ) and found a thread showing classical rosettes made with waxed veneer strips as spacers. Like teflon, but you can match the width of your tiles exactly.

The idea is the wax acts as a glue resist allowing the lines to be removed after being inlaid with the purfling. When the purfs are dry the spacers are pulled out leaving a void that the mosaic is fit into. Seems pretty straightforward.

Has anyone here tried this technique?
I'm curious about potential wax residue interfering with gluing in the mosaic. Is this an issue?

Here's a link to the original thread: http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=17 ... =1&smode=1

Best wishes,
-Jake.

Hi Jake!

I use the technique that you are referring to, but use teflon strips and thin them to give me the exact dimensions I need ... using the scraper/thicknesser that I posted in a thread called "Show me your favorite jigs" ... hopefully the link below will take you to it. It seems to me that I used waxed wood in a pinch years and years ago, and it worked OK, but the teflon is definitely better.

Thanks David! I've never used teflon before and didn't know it could be scaped like that. I've seen similar scraping jigs and your photo definitely inspires me to make one. I use scrapers a lot, and like how clean the surface they leave on work is vs. sanding.

I've found a second reference to wax line rosette work here: http://www.tsiorba.com/40-yr-dry-german ... nca-negra/
Again, no mention of removing wax residue so I guess it's not an issue. Still have visions of rosette tiles popping out of a finished guitar top tho. idunno
