I thought this made sense. I have never been impressed with the screw in nuts. Settles it for me.

Nothing wrong with the dovetail either. Plenty of furniture made that way, too.
I use this cross dowel/bolt system for my acoustics, I learned it directly from Cumpiano in his shop.
Works great!

I'm not impressed with these barrel nuts and I like the screw in nuts.
I believe either one when properly executed will be fine.

Mike: Before you start,check out Cumpiano's tendon reinforcement. I use that now and think it makes a lot of sense.

tendons join muscle to bone ... in woodworking, its called a tenon, for all you kerfed linings out there ...

I use the barrel nut system on my archtops & it works like a charm.
(Did a tutorial a while back ...... viewtopic.php?f=10117&t=16049 )
I also reinforce tenons, by drilling for a full height 3/8" dowel, for my own peace of mind.

I drill into the end of the tenon and epoxy in a 3/16" stud. When the neck is joined that stud protrudes into the neck pickup cavity. Tightening a nut over that stud during gluing draws the joint together very nicely. It made a tremendous difference in the neck body glue joint on my electrics.

This hardware would do the same thing and might be a little easier to work.

I use them but in with a brass barrel and stainless steel bolts. Also do the mortise ad tenon though.
