Is there anyone who makes and sells radius dishes in Europe or Germany?

I think the initial price isn't so bad but shipping them across an ocean really makes them too expensive.

Yup, shipping to Germany from here (Western Canada) would be $90 for one dish and $125 for two dishes. These are double laminated (at about 15 pounds per dish) and CNC carved mind you and are $75 each (for now, going up the $87.50 each soon).

Hi Tai, you can make them yourself you know? A router and a couple of sliding templates mounted on a frame thingy will do it. Hey, then YOU could start selling them over there maybe? Eat Drink

Cheers,
Dave F.

So I take it no one makes them here...

I would much rather carve them out using a curved plane then finish with either a router or by sanding... this operation generates a lot of dust. Plus MDF dust isn't something that's good for your health.

I'm a big fan of hand tools in general, and curved bottom planes are my tool of choice for some tasks, but not this one. Make a router jig, and do the task outside, preferably on a windy day…

I bought mine from Craft Supplies Ltd in UK. They supplied 15 foot and 25 foot radius, and also had a double sided (15/25) available. These were all in a resin type material, very durable and waterproof.
I do not know what they have in stock at the moment.
Their web address is http://www.craft-supplies.co.uk/ but they do not have a comprehensive online instument maker's supply catalogue, but did supply a printed catalogue by mail.
Contact tel. numbers and address are on the website. main number is +441433622550 from Germany. +441433622552 is the fax number.
They had a representative specifically for instrument making materials and tools, you would have to call them to contact him for your needs and a quote. He was not available every work day, and is often out in the yard, but will call back.
Hope this helps.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
