Hello! I have purchased a couple extera radius dishes from Luthier's Supply, and was wondering if I should back them up, or just shellac them as they are? And if they do need to be backed, what is the best way to go about it and maintain the contour? Thanks!

I backed mine with 3/4" ply. Good idea to seal the MDF radius dish with shellac.

You can back them if you want, but be sure to use a good flat mdf stock. It is not really necessary to back them, as we remove the case hardening from the flat side of the dish before cutting the concave portion. This is so you don't have a pringles potato chip after a few months. These should stay flat after many years if you keep them in a nice controlled environment. Like JJ said, a good couple of coats of shellac or lacquer should help keep them stable longer. Good luck and happy building!

Thanks for the replies! I'm gonna give 'em a few coats of shellac and leave it at that.
