I got to thinking about this... been a lot of talk about drum sanders lately. What is the width of your sander (and your brand)? Maybe we can get an idea of what is most popular for guitar work. This should include shop-built as well.

BTW, why can't we do "real" polls here?

Mine is a Jet/Performax 22-44 (non-oscillating).

Mike

Used to own a Delta 16-32. Hated the piece of crap. After constantly fidgeting with the conveyor belt (I owned the sander for about a year) I sold it.

Bought a 22/44 Performax. Much, much better machine.

Now? This is the crazy part. I sold the drum sanders. Now I have none. My thicknessing "machines" are a few very sharp planes. I guess I had this epiphany that I really was not saving any time with drum sanders. I can actually thickness what I need in about the same time, with much less noise, dust, machinery and visual clutter. Additionally, I have more control over how I thickness the wood (i.e. consistent thickness, vs. thinner around the perimeter, etc.)

I build about 10 guitars per year.
