Like most of us, I have limited space that I can devote to guitar building. My father-in-law has a cabinet shop in his barn (2 hours away) and I have been thinking of features that I would like to incorporate in a rolling cabinet that I will build on my next visit down there. I plan on using a compound radius jig (a la Proulx & Fifield) on one end. I'll probably also use this bench for my neck setting jig. I'd love to see pictures of some of your setups, whether they are built-in features or removable jigs for your bench. I'm estimating a work surface of approximately 2'x8'.

Casey, I've been contemplating this EXACT same thing... Compound radius jig at one end, fret press at other end and room on the sides for fretwire bender, fret hammering and storage for tools and wire... I will be interested to see what you come up with. - Justin

Do you own a table saw in your workshop? If yes a 3/4" plywood board cut the size of your table saw top , and a couple well placed "stops " to keep it from sliding and you have a work bench that can be lifted and set aside when you need table saw !

I have done this , and it makes a great work surface that is otherwise wasted space when your not using the table saw !

i didn't come up with a plan for my workshop. it's been evolving right along with my skills as a woodworker. my processes, workflow and organization methods have changed over time, and it works for me.

This is the one I designed and built. It works great (when I don't have it all cluttered up with other stuff!).



There are about 13 (there abouts) drawers on the outside of the peninsula on the left hand side of the "U" shaped bench.

That bench looks like a nice one. I wonder how well the U shape works.

Since I will move from my shop next year I made mine out of a recycled door, using the advice of a local construction re-use guy, and it works quite well, after I added a front edge of solid (recycled) oak boards.

Any jigs I use must be removable to make room. I made a radius jig that sits outside when not in use (the picture shows a granite counter piece on top). Haven't turned it into a compound radius one yet though and I just screw it right onto my bench top. As you can see things get pretty cluttered in the heat of work. I built the shop this summer on a pre existing slab in our backyard and at 10' x 16' is suprisingly a pretty decent size. I thought it would be too small. These days I have more time than money so I've been making everything I can from what I have.
