Again, thanks to all who posted the kind words. To hear these comments from my friend and awesome builder David Wren, and folks like Howard Klepper and Ken Franklin is really something .. that means a lot. I respect these builders (and all others who even try to build, as we know its not always that easy) for their talents in their own right. At times we take a leap of faith, and it turns out for the best.

Here is a picture of the internal top bracing, the X is 3/4 tall, a little over 5/16 wide - I was contemplating adding a CF laminate into the X, but after looking at the tensions, decided that I didnt need it. I had one of the Holloways here at the shop a few weeks back for a PU install, and was blown away by how much the bridge had tilted already - it was braced more similarly to a Dyer - just looking at mnine today, no lift or tilt at all - so far so good I guess).. I like the effect of the straight nut on this one Ken mainly because it allowed me to slant the bridge to fit the overall design look. WIth the scale delta only at a 1/2 inch, there isnt realy that much slant required if any, if you were to do this on a regular guitar. Because the harp needs such a huge bridge plate, its hard to judge much from this pic. I agree that too much slant at the nut makes bar chords tougher, but its all in how you hold the guitar sometimes, plus where you put the straight fret obviously .. I play in the classical style with the guitar body between the legs, so the neck is tilted up higher and not so much trouble.

Simply stunning, Tony. Congratulations. I especially love the silk in the top - an amazing piece of wood that is.

Just saw this. Wow! Are there any right angles on that instrument?

I [i]love{i] the look of your guitar! It looks like you've taken some design cues from Chris J. Knutsen. Definitely have Carter make some recordings for you. I saw him at the most recent Harp Guitar Gathering, and he is an outstanding player. I would love to hear how it sounds.

That is stunning!

Not to highjack the thread, but I have 3 billets of California black walnut in harp guitar size. They are from the late Lance McCollum's stash (he built a number of harp guitars).

They are cut to yield 2 billets with 4 pieces each and 1 billet with 6 pieces...so you can get back and sides from matching wood and have some leftovers for headstock/binding/whatever. The 6 piece billet would leave you enogh for two full sets of backs and sides for normal guitars in addition to the harp set...or any combo of those depending on what you want to build.

If anyone is interested, drop me a PM with your return email and I'll send photos and dimensions. No prices fixed yet, but all funds will go back to Lance's family.
