Yeah - Somehow, Network Solutions dropped the Guitarmaker site. They didn't know why, as they tell it, but they are re-posting a new website at http://asiartisans.org. Things are still a bit shakey, and log-ins may or may not work right now, but they are working to get it straightened out. They sent out a notice to members a week or so ago.

That's strange I am a member for a couple years and did not hear anything. I posted a link on my web site and it went to the strange site, I will correct it to the new url. This makes a lot of links invalid, you would think the the server would redirect to uses to the new address for a while.

I don't understand how it all happened, but apparently it was a mess. They may have a new server too.

I fixed my link to the new URL, I hate broken links.

Yeah, I got that notice too. It looks like a squatter site, so it could be that ASIA's renewal was gorffed or some such and now a squatter owns it. Just a WAG on my part there but it looks like what I've seen in the past.

Network Solutions has been a horrible web host, and troubles there made it very difficult to improve ASIA's web presence (for example, they overwrote new file with old ones several times). A few months ago, we started building a completely new site at DreamHost. On January 5, things went from bad to worse at Network Solutions. They deleted our site and moved us to another server with another organization's files. After spending countless hours with their so-called customer support, we finally gave up and made a hurried push to bring the new site online on Martin Luther King day.

Two things happened at Network Solutions: 1. They deleted our web hosting account even though we had 6 months left. 2. They are still dragging their feet in releasing our domain name, guitarmaker.org, so that we can redirect it to the new server on DreamHost. They have about 5 days left before they are compelled to release the domain name. Once they do, guitarmaker.org will be an alternate way to get to the new website.

I would recommend everyone start thinking about ASIArtisans.org as the entry point to ASIA rather than guitarmaker.org. ASIA is more than the Guitarmaker Magazine, and the new website organization reflects that. ASIArtisans.org has all the old information, plus we're starting to build new pages exclusively for members.

I do apologize for the login mess. We had been unable to backup the Network Solutions database for about three months, so all logins added recently have to be added again to the new website.

BTW, We haven't mass-mailed members about the change, because it should become transparent in a few days. But Nadine has been letting people know when they renew their membership.

They'll be good at Dreamhost.com - I've been with them for about the same time as Filippo has been with Pair.com and not had any serious issues or outages ever. Rates are pretty reasonable too....

Cheers,
Dave F.

I just tried the http://asiartisans.org link, and it won't load. They
must still be having some problems, even with the new host.
