Not to create another controversy between disparate hardness camps, but I've always been a 2.5 Ticonderoga guy. The 2 always seemed to smear a bit too much for me. Of course, I'm a lefty. Handed that is. Will keep my political leanings to myself.

Oh, my best gifts for Christmas? I received several donations in my name to our local humane society from various family & friends, and returned said gifts in kind. Neither braggin, complain', nor judging. Just expressing gratitude for a good life filled with wonderful people & critters.

And my mental state? Somewhere between catatonic & Padmanic.

Haans, sounds like a blessing to me!

I know I have had years when just the thought of spending Christmas as you have described would have been "rich".

Yo, Michael

Between catatonic and Padmanic....gee Michael that wood sorta make you ummm well normal, and me never met anybody that was normal, (even though I do have my sanity papers, see post http://luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10112&t=28488 )

I bet if you check with the Dr.s they might have some sorta treatment for normality.
Like they fixed me insanity. Well not really but as an old bar room musician me learned how to fake it pretty good and so they let me walk around without the ankle bracelet and even carry pencils and other concealed sharp objects like me wit.

Give them a shot...might work.

Blessings
duh Padmanic Padma

Oh, Padma, my man, I make no claims of normality. I think you'll agree normalcy is highly overrated! I'm more of a sliding scale sort of guy, mostly hangin' out toward either end not near the middle.

Thanks Tim.
A couple of years ago on Christmas, we were lucky to get a lovely, heavy snow with huge flakes and a day in the upper '20's. We took a nice walk in the woods where I set up this shot.

Beautiful pic Haans.

Funny that it takes a pic like this with the story you just shared to remind me to appreciate that
this is what me see all around me for 4 months out of the year.

Thank you for posting it.

Which is a #2, if someone thinks about this in US hardness scale. Unfortunately none of my local office supplies seem to stock them. :-( ... some folks mention that they like the #4 as well. Lee Valley's pencils (which do not have a round shaft, but the regular hexagon) come in a sample pack of different hardnesses ... gotta love that.

Thanks, Link.

Those are great gifts, jsmith! A few years back I did give my wife a goat from OXFAM...
MikeToby, I loved your Christmas story. That is what Christmas is about.

And my mental state today? Not enough coffee to tell, but my outlook is good so far and little barbs are sliding off my back.

Rap on, Mos' Def Ice C. And here's to a productive, harmonious & fulfilling new year for our collective lives in general and guitar making in specific--maybe even with some QS white oak.

I know I am late for this thread, but wanted to show you this anyway...
I finally got my first router. Things will be easier from now on.

Its first task was to make a 25' and 15' dish. Worked like a charm, but this was the biggest mess I have ever seen in the shop. :D

Don't complain Todd, compared to us you guys have it easy when it comes to Festool.

Christoph, are your hands and wrists sore from spinning the dish? Mine are and I made them in September...

Hello Edward,
Can't complain. I only made 2 dishs. Each took like 20 minutes to make. I couldn't say that it was hard work. idunno

Christoph I have a very similar setup that I made years ago. Since your rotating the dish you only need to rout on 1/2 of the guides. I covered the back half with clear plexiglass and drilled a hole for my shop vac hose. Eliminated much of the mess. Beautiful router.

Oops, I see now your jig is quite different. With my setup the router is fixed and the sled is what moves so you have to spin the dish a turn, advance the router, spin it a turn, etc. Yours looks a lot better.

Hey Bob, great idea. Perhaps I will alter the two jigs...

Alan, you are right. This was very expensive (for a router). I have been struggling with this investment for 3 years. But I hope the quality makes it a good decision... Time will tell.

Edward, I got the idea for this jig from the OLF. This place rocks!!! bliss

If you mount the dish blank on a Lazy Susan bearing, it spins itself. [:Y:] I have made several that way.
