Hello all, I've spent a few months reading posts (most of them very helpful). Finally made an account and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a college student and am about to embark on my first of hopefully many guitars. I'm starting of with a Martin dreadnought building kit.

Welcome Will, the Martin kit is a good beginning place as it will give you the confidence to move on to more scratch building and you will get a very good guitar if you build it properly. My 1st build 5 years ago was a OM cutaway kit from Martin that I upgraded to curly maple binding and bone nut and saddle which added only a little to the cost. I still play and enjoy showing off old #1 even though my skills have improved a whole lot, it still gets played almost every day.

Take you time, ask lots of questions on the forum and use the search function to mine for great information.

Fred

Hah thanks all, I'll definitely be posting pictures of progress. I really would like to eventually build archtop acoustics, but one step at a time.
