This is on and older Gretsch electric (1965 Corvette). I had trouble setting intonation. After a couple of attempts I put a capo on the 3rd frett, tuned then set intonation at 12th frett. Removing the capo all strings sound low. I put a piece of wire about 1/16" from the nut and it played in tune. As if the fingerboard was too long??? No sign of a neck reset (it is a set neck). Any thoughts?

Thanks,

John

can you post pics ? A way to see if that is the case is to cape the 1st fret tune and check intonation on the 13th fret . If that is the case the nut is out of postion .
