I'm a student at Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, AZ. I'm in the process of building an acoustic and an electric. I had a problem with the top on my acoustic and was considering adding a sunburst to the top.

Here's the end result. With the rope-like binding and the sunburst, folks around here have been referring to it as the "cowboy guitar." I've never named an instrument before, even ones with strong "personalities," but this one is something special. Given the number of issues I've had with building this guitar, someone suggested the name "Calamity Jane." It stuck.

Here's the result, held by my friend Steve. It has somewhere around 8 shots of lacquer on the top. I'll wet sand and buff most likely after Christmas break here at Roberto-Venn. The shots of the back and sides were done after two wash coats and one top coat of lacquer followed by pore filling.

By the way, the top is Sitka, the back and sides "big curl" mahogany with a center quilted mahogany on the back, gen-u-wine Mossman backstrips (purchased from Stuart himself way way back when) for the back and for the top purfling. Rosewood binding with a maple purfling strip on the bottom.

Very cool burst. I like how narrow it is. Accents the top while letting the natural grain dominate the instrument. Very neat.

Nicely done! Did Kris Olsen help you spray that burst? Please tell him and the rest of the staff that Yukon says hello. It's eight years and roughly 12,000 guitars across my bench since I left RV. Going to RV is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Where are you headed when you're done?
BTW, I also used the Mossman purfling on my acoustic build and I duplicated it in the rosette.

More like I helped Kris spray the burst. And that's probably overstating my role. He did a magnificent job.
