The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

SPAM ingredients listed as PORK and HAM. There's a difference.......?????

There were a few lines in the movie "Slingblade" describing the ingredients in Potted Meat. I would classify those parts as Pork. We call it LPA. Ham is the part that isn't pudding in consistency. .

"You think there's really pec**rs in there, ground up"....."MMMMMHMMM I thank I see one right there"!

Slingblade was an awesome movie!
