My, my... you are too kind.

Bill and Douglas, yes that rosette was a bit of whimsy. We had several blanks w/ sapwood (thank you Hibdon Hardwoods!) and resawing/bookmatching them gave the idea for alignment with that lighter stripe in the top. I ran the idea by the customer, and he was agreeable. So all that was necessary was getting the width of sapwood the same width as that light stripe in the top. Easy. As for the gloss... hmmm... did Colin put you up to that?

Darryl, Ziricote is quite dense, and performs a bit like ebony. But with *something* else.
I'm hearing more, on this guitar, than just the redwood. You know how rosewood will kick something back into the equation... I'm getting some of that from the Ziricote.

Tim, the neck is indeed heavier than a solid piece of mahogany would be. And that was one reason I was glad to do a slothead. But oh boy, the sustain from this guy goes on and on. Besides, paired with a Ziricote body, the balance is nice.

And again, my sincere thanks for your generous praise.

Oh, and let me say something about the Rodgers tuners: they are quality you can feel.
Smooth as butter, and precise as you could want. As a bonus, they're easy to look at--like jewelry for your guitar.

Steve

First off, there's too much streaking in the top,
then there's all that sapwood showing,
also, can't you drill a straight line for your bridge pins?
Which are white?
Absolutely, beautiful!!!!
I like light and dark guitars myself.

Beautiful work as usual, Steve. My guess is that the photos don't really do it justice.

Nah...Its just me. I deal with this issue in my day job, too (you know the canoe thing...). I just have this thing about perfect high gloss finish as an expectation and mark of accomplishment in and of itself. We can put SO much work into a perfect finish, a finish that has to look like it it not the accomplishment of the hand of man or woman.

The finish on that guitar looks great, very well done. The gloss comment was as more a compliment than a reflection of my sentiment towards the current state of applied finishes, which came out anyway. I don't want my personal sentiments to detract from the guitar!

Guilty as charged! :)

Ken, you're right.

Hans, go for it...stretch yourself. You might be surprised. (I know I was.)

Douglas, boy do I hear you. That's why I get Tony to do my finishes now.
He enjoys torture like that, in fact seems to thrive on it.
Takes all kinds, eh?

Steve

How I would love to get my hands and ears on that guitar, Steve. I'm DYING to know how it sounds.

Don't you think it's about time you hire me to be the guy who tests out all your guitars?

That might work, Todd. What if we route them from Tony Ferguson's shop in Michigan, to your shop in Ithaca before they come back here? Of course, you'd have to be our setup man as well as test driver. You up for that?!?

Thanks Tony. When Todd gets through, he can mail it on to you?

Thanks guys,

Steve

Steve, I haven't been online here in ages and am so sorry to log on only to see that your craft has dropped to merely "drop dead gorgeous". I am so disappointed bliss

Very classy, Steve! You do build fine looking guitars! That would be a great one to see and hold in person.

Love it!
