I always like seeing the new guitars you guys build, so I figured I better put one up for folks to look at.
This one is my latest concert size. The sound board is 4 piece redwood that was sitting in the basment of an old barn for 25 or so years. Back and sides are opportuntiy grade EIR from Allied (a great deal offered by Todd and company, especilly if you have a small guitar in your arsenal). Macassar ebony and maple purfling and rosette. My friend Ed (forum member ELysne) did the corian inlay on the headplate with his cnc. The fret board and bridge are Ipe left over from a job. The only piece of this guitar that wasn't a left over or a second is the 1 piece neck, that's from a 35 year old hunk of 16/4 Honduran that I lucked upon from craigs list. Didn't get a great deal on that one, but it was fair. The finish on the body is Nitro and the neck is Tru-oil.

Wow! Looks great!
Especially like the tail graft shape - very unique, and the headstock inlay - very clean,

Beautiful instrument! Unique and classy detailing. Maybe a tutorial someday on how you do your rosettes?

Nice details, yhea!

The end graft, the rosette, the headstock inlay, the purflings... all really classy and sober.

Congrats!

Francis

Thank you so much everyone,

I am pretty happy with this one. The miters on the tail graft could have been tighter. I think I need one of those magnifying light things Todd Stock was showing us a few months ago. It's amazing what you can see in pictures that you can't see in person.

For this style rosette you just need to check the OLF tutorial section for Ken Franklin's (big fan of his I am) how to. It's a lot easier than it looks. You can see the small seperations between the tiles (getting better at that too!). Now think of a masonary heringbone pattern. I started with a 3/16"x3/4"x 36" piece of Mac Ebony and glued on a .020" maple veneer. Then I cut it into 6 pieces and glued those together in the Herringbone pattern, along with my fingers, with thin CA. Next was a few passes through the table saw in a jig to get to the right size and shape for the tiles. The purfling is the same material and pattern in half scale cut to a different shape. That's all done on a Dewalt contractors table saw with a 7 1/4" Diablo blade and zero clearance insert and a Performax 16/32 sander with 120 grit paper.

Steve

That's a winner Steve. Lovely purflings, as has been said. Wonderful finish.

Thanks Steve, no Joe White results yet but closer. If you make it this far south, stop by and give it a work out. I'm sure the guys here are wondering how it sounds and my playing chops will certainly give no answers.

Steve, that's a winner for sure.
I was going to comment on the really nice logo design, and then I scrolled down to the rosette, and then the purfling. Holy cow... so clever...so well done. I love it all.

ummm......wow.

There are a lot of nice guitars posted here, with tight joinery, crisp lines and demonstration of really clean work. This guitar clearly fits the bill.

Then there are many fewer guitars which have really innovative and coherent design elements. This is where I get reaally jealous. Your guitar really has some nice, innovative design elements. beautiful work.
