I love my guys but it is nice to have two whole days alone in the shop. Resawed and thickness sanded some pretty well quartered honduran we had left over from a restaurant project we did a few years ago and some very pedestrian walnut. Built molds for two new bodies, a 13 fret L-OO knock off, and a grand orchestra cutaway, bent sides for both, got the neck and tail blocks glued in, plus I got the top and back radiused. Laminated 5 piece necks for 8. Tomorrow I will watch the continuing saga of my Vikings. :( T.

Steve - the bearclaw on that top is gorgeous!!! eek Did you do anything to accentuate the figure, or is that just natural?

Thanks, Bobby and Charlie! I did choose the wood, but I have to give most of the credit to Joe White, the fine fellow who sprayed this finish. There is some color added to the finish to give this appearance, along with the cat/poly material itself, which really gives a depth I haven't seen in most other finishes. I think Joe worked up this color with JJ, who was trying to emulate the finish of a vintage Martin, if memory serves.

After 15 years of building in my basement shop, I'm looking forward to moving into my new 24' x 24' shop. Being above ground with lots of windows is a dream come true! And it's right out my back door! Finished installing the furnace yesterday... next is electrical.

I'm working on 3 classicals right now, but I only have pics of two of them. I'll get a pic of the third when someone does the next " what's happening in your shop".

Pic 1:African BW with WRC top
Pic 2:BRW with German Spruce

Hey Bob; I know how exciting it is when you FINALLY get that shop you've been dreaming of.
Great looking building!
Love the shingle treatment on the gable end.
After ten years, I STILL don't have all the siding on my shop. Just on the sides you can see from the house.
That long commute is hard to take, isn't it?
Congrats!!! (I give you five years before you start saying it's too small... ;) )

This is my new rotisserie! I know it's not a popular choice but that's a fresh coat of Minwax High Build Poylurethane. The rotisserie is to prevent sags and drips while it levels and dries.

No joke... I made 13 of the string pegs, so I'd have enough for 2 guitars plus a spare. they were all standing in holes drilled in a scrap board. When the weather turned cold we had a bunch of mice move in to the basement. I eventually poisoned them, but 5 of the pegs are gone! I only wish I had kept one of them alive so I could torture the location of my pegs from him... they took me hours to make!

Bob that shop is awesome! Totally envious! [:Y:]
Steve: what back and side wood is that? Gorgeous!
(Unless you haven't noticed, I'm a fan of using superlatives in my posts.)

I finally got some braces on my first build. Got to use hide glue for the first time, but had to improvise a bit on the clamping.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments about the new shop... I hope to share more photos as I get further along with the interior... Maybe I should start a thread to solicit ideas about tricking out the workspace.

Daniel... I'm glad you noticed the "shingle art" on the gable end... I've wanted to do that on something for years... finally got my chance!

Closing the box on a classical. WRC, EIRW, Romanillos plan. I like the size of the guitar already.

I got a bit of time to work on one of the tenor uke's on my list...this one has Koa back & sides, Adi top, and IRW binding. This one will have a mesquite fingerboard & bridge with a Texas style inlay..

I put one together on the weekend. A Monkeypod and Lutz from Shane.

Sounds really good right off. I'm really happy with this one.

But mostly I cleaned up my shop. I always clean between builds so it can get pretty thick with dust.

Snuck in a little time for neck shaping for my J45 build.... This one has taken over a year now -- and I still have a way to go....
Attachment:
Neck 1.JPG

Lucky for me -- I got lots of help....
Attachment:
Neck 2.JPG

Help eating sandpaper
Help with keeping my tools off of the railing.... on the ground where they belong....
Help chewing on my fingers while sanding
Help climbing all over me..... Keeping me warm on a cold day

In the end, though... there are a whole lot worse things than a friendly cat to keep track of the build....

Thanks

Started getting the finish on my Sapele and Sitka SJ 12-string. Really liking those Stew Mac Colortone liquid stains.

It was the lightest Sapele I've ever seen, soo.....
