Im not a truck driver , though I have had a C liscense in the past . If i remember correctly , u are required down time after (10 hrs ) driving right?

Soooooooooo You will just have to plan ur down time to coincide with an address of a shop where u can get some work done ! I am sure there are enough guys here with shops scattered across the USA that you could get your sawdust fix laughing6-hehe

Hope you have a great time on the road Chris
you can design a combi luthiere machine for us
it would be fun to document a build of a guitar on the road
and get a piece of wood off every luthier that you stop at
thier will be many people to welcome you to their shops
good luck

It's 11 hr. driving max. and 3hr. on duty not driving or a combo of both totaling a 14 hours of service then requiring a 10 break. No more then 70 hours of service in a rolling 8 days without a 34 hr. reset break. It can get a tad complicated keeping the log book. A good trainer will teach time management and trip planning and running safe and legal(which I'm intent on doing). There's lots to this other then just driving. I'll be doing good if I can average 2500 miles a week and I'm hoping for at least 2000 miles a week average. At $.32mi. which is high for a starter, most starter companies pay .28mi. that's not much pay if you break it down to a 60-70 hr. week. But it's a job and I look at it as an adventure and will make the best of it. I'll have to see where it leads me. :)

Best of luck to you.
You are not alone, many of us are making some adjustments to survive now days.
I try to find some positive in anything that happens.
My saying is, "Things have a funny way of working out sometimes".

I will be especially interested to hear about mobile luthiery. I have contemplated doing it from a van.

Good luck, Chris. Sounds like you will be getting more playing time than building time!

Good luck with the new gig. As Ken suggested, at least you can work on your playing skills.

Good luck Chris, I too know the effects the economy has made on all of us. I used to build high-rises in Chicago, now I work in a blast furnace. gaah

Good Luck Chris, I wish you could stay with your guitar building full time but I understand you got to do this.
Have fun with it and keep in touch when you're in town.

Good luck and best wishes Chris. Thanks for your videos, they have help tons, and the centerline finder I was able to get from you recently has worked flawlessly. You will be missed but certainly not forgotten, especially if you drop in once in a while. Aloha!

Chris, well done and all the best.
I know what it's like to have difficulty finding work, I'm just lucky it's OK at the minute.
Thanks for all the guidance and inspiration, keep in touch.
Colin

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Good luck Chris! Seems we are all making concessions to the economy...My house is for sale in Florida and I am living in a hotel in CT...
