With a good set-up you should be able to get 6 sides but you need to be really careful. Six sides per inch is .166" and you need to take the kerf off 5 of those. So with a .035 kerf and perfect set-up (which is not very easy to do) you will end up with slices that are .1375. That is like very good for sides, lots of room to clean up to .90 or so. But you really need to spend the time on set-up and you also want to be sure that although the band is only a .035 kerf you still want to be sure that there is no unevenness is your wheels that will make the actual kerf larger. So, run some test pieces on less valuable stock.

Good luck and I sure hope it all works out well for you. That looks like decent wood.

Shane

Shane,
When you say to run some test pieces I assume you are saying to re-saw something else of equal dimensions (I'm thinking curly maple since I've got a ton of it) and then get a caliper reading on the top and the bottom to make sure that the blade is as close to perfectly square with the table as possible?

thanks,
Joey

Just practice on some 2x10 from the lumber yard. Its a lot cheaper. You might want to pick up Lonnie Bird's Bandsaw Book. It is a great book for learning about, and setting up your saw.

Hey Bob,

My saw is pretty accurate right now and I need to cut up some more of this maple anyways. It's just not accurate enough to comfortably chew through a couple thousand bucks worth of extremely rare zoot. I have plenty of maple so no sense in buying lumber, especially when I still need a new compressor and some a massive upgrade over the current dust collection. A new ct blade should only improve upon the accuracy I am currently getting. I think I have it down to about 8/8 billets and I should have no trouble getting 4 slices out of that.

On another note, anyone have any experience with the Lennox Kerf Master carbon blades?

Lennox Kerf Master Sampler pack
(1) 1/2" | .022 | 3/4 VARI-Tip
(1) 5/8" | .016 | 3/4 VARI-Tip
(1) 5/8" | .022 | 3/4 VARI-Tip
(1) 3/4" | .022 | 3/4 VARI-Tip

....that .016 kerf 5/8" blade is awful tempting to give a shot dispite not having a carbon tip. @ $20.33 even if it only got through one billet of BRW, it would pay for itself several times over if I could get a straight/uniform cut out of it.
