I was reading some of the archives about the Tonerite and it got me thinking. Does anyone play music to their stash? If you left it going 24/7, you could be building with wood that had be resonating for years and years. Depending on your setup, I'd guess you could really crank it up too and not need to worry about popping braces loose. I suppose you'd need to change how it was stored though. It's probably hard to penetrate a thick stack of soundboards. Maybe it'd be better to clamp transducers directly to the boards.

I figure most of what the Tonerite does (assuming it does anything) has to do with breaking in the guitar while under new stresses and helping everything settle in faster, but some people speculate a change to the wood. If so, it seems it might be worth trying. Not me though. Everything's in the basement and constant noise would not contribute to household .

Just wondering.

What I do is pinch and squeeze my stash. I think it helps a lot. In fact, so much so that I do it 24/7.

I use stickers.

Pure speculation, but I can't see any benefit to playing music or various tones to tonewood billets or sets. The idea of playing music to a completed guitar is nothing new. A number of shops do it or have done it in the past. Under string tension, the vibrations allegedly speed the play-in process, which makes some sense. Any change to the wood at that time would then be directly influenced by string tension and structure. The toneright works on somewhat the same principle (i.e., vibration). However, if the wood is just flat stock and you assuming, for the sake of argument, such vibrations could change the structure of the wood, I would hypothesize the change would be counterproductive, in essence merely weakening the woods structure randomly.

Again, I have no evidence to support my opinion. I'm sure that as soon as post this, someone will inform me, truthfully, that Stradivari and Torres held regular concerts for their respective stashes.

This is a topic that usually mushrooms. However, there is no scientific evidence that sound causes a guitar to progress faster to playability or improve in tone (faster).

There is plenty of anecdotal evidence. If there were solid evidence, Tonerite would charge way more than they do, and they would let you into their forums before buying one. They would also show the evidence. But they do not. Anyways, you can go get an aquarium air pump for much less. The tonerite price is just high enough to make you a believer and low enough to prevent lawsuits.

when i used to work in a polyester mill, i would bring my geetar and leave it on the table next to the big punch looms. I now bring them on the freight trains with me

although i believe its better if you break it in with your own playing style.

If you go this site you will see another device claiming similar results. If you go the the "references" page you will see endorsements by some extremely reputable people who I think would not do so if they did not believe in it. I cannot tell from the site how it is supposed to work.

Yes, very common. Few details. No research. Just testimonials. Why is that? If someone is going to develop a real tool, they will back it up with research. I would be glad to do research, but too busy. I could care less who provides testimonials. Maybe I can get the folks at mythbusters to take this on!
