Hi Wim - that is a pretty cool bridge - how about a closeup of the rosette? Looks intriguing.....

Hi Rob.
I copied the bridge from the OLF plan so all credits go to Michael D. Payne
This is the best pic I have of the rosette (click to enlarge).
I did not make it myself  it's from madinter (spain) It was love at fist sight.

Not too much, luthiery wise.

However my wife had a honey-do for me that I couldn't say no to. A co-worker is having a retirement party tomorrow and she brought home some supplies for a gag gift. His nickname, which is a contraction of his real first and last name, is "Budman".

So appropriately:

Yeah, I'm guessing I'll be in hot water for posting something so unguitar here, I'm gonna cover my Backside:

Hope everyone has a great week!

MikeG - that looks too nice to be your first!

Filippo - I think it's such a valuable thing to teach your son how to make something like a guitar. The attention to quality learned there will apply to almost any profession he ends up in! Very cool!

Had to work yesterday, but today I tried a little experimentation with stain. So far I like the way it's looking.

Inspiring work out of all of you, as usual.

Pore filling #1. I've gone through a ton of z-poxy and even more sandpaper. Every time I get it close to level I sand through on the edges.

my tail looks ok.

I missed the mark trying to get the heel cap to line up with the binding.

Well, since my workshop is now all moved over to my industrial unit and is kind of functional again, I finally got around to making a neck for the coco OMC that I started back in April!!
I went with coco everything - headplate, backplate, heel plate, fingerboard. I think it looks nice, but I've been toying with the idea of inlaying some celtic knots (maple) into the fingerboard - what do you think? Too much? Would it take away from the awesome QS grain and color of the coco?

Also, I've been testing my new finishing process - UV polyester - testing insulator/gel filler/topcoat thickness, drying time in the UV booth etc.
So far I've not been happy with any of the results, but at least the results have been getting better and better, so I'll have the process fine tuned soon.

Cheers,
Dave F.

Dave, looks nice; I would not inlay anything since the wood has a lot of character.

No pictures, but I bent the sides, glued in the blocks, and joined the plates for a Carpathian/Osage Orange 12 fret slope D. I also buffed a Cedar/Rosewood W body. I've also been working on a "Guitar Finishing with Oil Varnish" DVD set. Buffing the W body is the last scene. It's all recorded I've just got to put it all together.

As someone who highly doubts he'll ever have the space to set up a spray operation I'd be VERY interested in this.

fought with an unrelenting bridge! [xx(]

Finish sanded the bracing to two tops. That always burns the tips of my fingers from the friction.

David, I love the looks of this guitar. Interesting bracing...is this an experiment?
I can't seem to pull up--in my mind's eye--this bracing pattern. (Thus my question.)
Also, I'm wondering what's the width on those fans?

Questions, questions....

Steve

Hi Steve,
This is the pattern that I've been using twenty years or so with a few variations. This one specifically is the Torres SE 83 layout with my own addition of single treble and single angled cut-off bars.
The fans are 6mm (center three), 5.5 mm (next outer two) and 5.0 mm (two outermost). Cut off and trebles are 5mm.

Best!

No lutherie for me this weekend, last road race of the season. I am in the process of finishing my first double top classical though, I am excited about that.

Thanks David...I'd love a report on the sound.
Jfmckenna, looks like your rides there are about as hilly as ours here.
So which one of those riders is you?

Steve

Nothing IN the shop per se, but I got an insulated segmented 8 x 7 door installed, and put up a rain gutter over it to keep things dry. Biggest investment in the shop since I started. I'm looking forward to a warmer shop this winter, not toasty, but warmer.
