So what is the optimum depth to ream for Waverly bushings?I`m using a .340 reamer and the maximum thickness on the bushings is .348.I think I`m using the correct one? When I ream out the full depth of the bushing on a piece of scrap they go in by just pushing them in with my finger.This seems to loose,so I figure I can`t go the full depth or why would I need a bushing press.Or maybe I don`t need one.So Waverly users,what`s your technique?

If you use the .340 StewMac reamer freehand it will be a loose fit. Use your drill press at slow RPM and it'll fit snug. That's been my experience.

So your drilling it full depth of the bushing? It`s dang hard to get the holes closest to the volute to sit flat on the drill press.Another jig? It seems I could achieve the same thing by just not drilling quite the full depth.

James, I use a 1/2" piece of plywood with a v shaped slot cut out to match the "volute" so as to shim the back of headstock so it will lay flat on the drill press table.

JJ and Chuck,that`s pretty much what I did.I was thinking about a tapered reamer that was pretty much shaped the same as the bushing only a taint smaller.I figured this would give a really nice tight fit.I now realize not neccesary.I was just having a week moment ,maybe trying to get things too perfect.Thanks guys,
