Specs:

Back, sides, and top: Western Red Cedar, courtesy of Menards.

Neck: Mahogany, also from Menards.

Fretboard: Indian Rosewood

Bracing: Standard fan bracing, spruce

Binding: ebony

Headstock veneer: Indian Rosewood with b/w/b fiber sheet.
















It's by far the lightest guitar I've made (3 pounds). The last classical I made was 4 pounds.
As far as sound goes, I'm very happy with it so far. My nails are too short to play right now, but when they grow back out, I'll try to post a video or audio clip.

Gorgeous rosette! Too bad we don't have Menards down here in the south. They only carry PTP, whitewood and red oak around here.

Sound Clips of most of my guitars

That really turned out to be sweet. I saw your original posting about this build, and went to Home Depot to look for wood with potential. My question is about how the wood at a lumber yard is prepared....were either the cedar and mahogany quartersawn? If not, did you have to adjust your bending or building technique at all?

Take those tuner screws out and cut them with a fret trimmer(1/8").
then screw them back in .
Then fill the holes in the slots with some matching filler.
I really get pissed when tuners come with screws that will break through that area!

Looks nice! Great finish

A few comments though:

-you need to round the corners of the nut, those look dangerously sharp.
-slot ramps need to be longer and deeper in order to reduce contact between string and wood as much as it is reasonable
-the perimeter purfling should match the rosette better. If no crosses-purfling available, you could have used a simple WBWB or perhaps copied the inner white-yellow-white circle.
-the backstrip, is it the same rosette model?

How did it go bending cedar?

That's a very handsome instrument, and I particularly like the continual curve through the tail. I think that's very elegant. I agree with responses about the rosette and the tuner screws, but I honestly hadn't noticed the screws until I read that response. It would not have occurred to me to build the entire body of cedar, but I think it looks great.

Nice guitar! It goes to show that if you get the hang of it, any wood can make a decent sounding (not to mention looking) instrument. Well done. I like the black and whit of the rosette/binding scheme against the cedar.
