Anyone have experience with Kevin Ryan's kerfing?

I'm using it on my nearly finished Oregon Myrtle guitar. Love it. Great to work with, it bends around curves like a dream.

Chris.

SUPER easy to install. Very fragile as well.

I used it on my #5, and liked it very much. Very easy to bend, but, as stated, also very fragile.

It's good stuff, especially on a tight cutaway.

It takes 1/3rd of the time to install and requires almost no clean up form squeeze out. I've been using it on my new fingerstyle prototypes I've been building. When I kerf a regular one now it sucks in comparison. But a standard kerfed liner set cost about $11 and these cost almost three times that. Is it "worth" it? I don't know, but I sure do like the ease of installation and time savings. It also makes the rim stiffer too. Some people love that.

I just tried it recently on a nice tight cutaway, it lays in really nice due it's close kerfs and its ability to flex vertically and it requires almost no clean up. I was bit surprised how much easier it made the job, I'll be using it again.

Not to mention that it looks really cool through the sound hole, with the stripe along the bevel. I use the beveled rather than the triangular. :D

Thanks, John, for providing that feedback. One more question - how does it actually provide a more stiff rim?

Filippo

When compared to the traditional triangular kerfing (which I use standard) it is much stiffer. My guess would be because of the thickness of the kerfing over the whole height as opossed to the thin top tapering to the thicker bottom. If you using reverse kerfing I doubt there would be any difference.

It's nice stuff. I recommend everyone at least try it if the like the look. It may or may not be for you, but I guarantee you'll love how easy it is to install.
