I am pleased to announce that Alan Dunwell will be offering a double top or composite top master class at Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood Colorado on Dec 3rd, 4th and 5th.
Due to the overwhelming response to my Luthier Tips du Jour video on this subject, Colorado luthier Alan Dunwell, has offered to teach students how to make a double top soundboard.
Over the course of three days Alan will not only show you how it is done but help you through the process. That's right! You will leave the class with an actual composite top that you made, ready to brace and use on your next guitar. Alan will discuss all aspects of this modern approach to soundboard design. Topics include: joining and thickness the inner and outer skins, Nomex material cut out, inner hard piece design and cut out, glue mixing and application, vacuum pumps and bags suitable for double top construction, Chladni patterns and bracing of double tops, installing rosettes and binding on double tops, as well as many others.
Dates are Friday December 3rd from 5-10PM, Saturday Dec. 4th 9-5 and Sunday Dec. 5thth from 9-1
The price for this masterclass is $350 and includes all materials. You will leave the class with your own top that you built in the class. This is a hands on class.
Space is limited. To reserve your spot a deposit of $150 is required.

Likewise I would love to attend too but cannot. I am building my first double-top now and using the shotgun approach, try everything and hope it works. So many questions have I :)
