Having recently acquired a fairly large and very old Brazilian Rosewood lumber stash I am looking to turn some of it into cash for other things like tuners, bridge pins, etc. A few of these pieces of wood are perfect for making classical and narrow bridges (can't remember the name of the style). The size of the blanks are going to be somewhere in the 7.5" long x 1.060" wide x 4 or 500 thou thick. There's no other way to cut these particular pieces of wood.

Will this size sell? I'd really like to hear from classical builders and other builders that use a narrow (1 inch) bridge.

1.063 would be about right. Mine are, minimum, 190 mm x 27 mm x 12 mm. That leaves little room for clean-up. Most use a shorter bridge, I think.

Pyramid bridges for steel string guitars are usually about 150mm x 25 mm (6" x 1"). My steel string bridges are about that size, even the ones that are not pyramid style. Most steel string guitars have larger bridges, though.

Waddy and Arnt thanks for weighing in. These particular boards are flat sawn but they are JUST over 1 inch in thickness. If I turn them up on their side and make bridge blanks out of them I'd be happy. They would be perfect for this type of bridge blank...I think....but I'm no expert. They are too short for binding otherwise I'd make binding out of them.

Pyramid bridges - that's what I couldn't remember.

I'd take some pieces that are just over an inch and flat sawn !
The longest length pieces you have.

I'd be willing to buy some that way too. Save you some time and effort. I don't mind cutting my own blanks, no matter the grain orientation. Tell me size and price and show me a pic.

Yes Chris, Brazilian binding stock for those of us who laminate the purfling lines and then strip out is much harder to come by than Brazilian brdge blanks.
1'' (25.4 mm) is slightly narrow for me as I'm using 27-28 mm at this point though it's just fine for the Martin or Gibson straight style bridges.
190 mm length is what I would use as well though you should cut thema bit longer.

1.125 x 6.50 x .400" would be a good sized blank to have for those of us using the narrow (non belly) steel string bridge. My final sizes are 6" x 1" x .350"

Thanks for the input JJ. Some of this stock just won't make 1.125 wide....more like 1.060 or 1.070". I'm putting the most effort into identifying grain orientation so that I then can determine best use.

I have a bunch of Brazilian in pieces like this also and I use it for things like back strips, end grafts, headstock and fingerboard binding, tiled rosettes, tuner buttons, bridge pins, etc... There are lots of uses, especially if you do have some binding stock and need to match it. It is nice to use the longer stuff only for the long bindings and cut the smaller pieces from a shorter matching board. It sounds like you may have quite a pile though and do not need to be so careful! It also sounds like there would be plenty of use for it as bridges so hopefully it all finds good uses.
