Well let's see.
I didn't get much done guitar wise but managed to get some tooling near finished for my ellipsograph except for about 4 drilling bushings I need to order. The tooling/jig is for locating and drilling the frame and the other is a picture of the disc drilling template and routing template.
I also polished up my bike to get it ready for sale.

It draws or in this case routes ellipses or circles or oval sound holes. There is an old discussion on the prototype here.

I had a youtube on it but took them down.

All I got done was (pretty much) getting over what the Doctor called Sinusitis and Acute Brondhitis.

Figured out the new bending machine, bent some sides, made some forms, and started building the boxes for numbers #2 and #3.

I glued up the box on one of the archtop bass guitars I'm doing. Should finish glueing up the oval holed one tonight. They sure look big when they're all together!

That looks great Darrel. How heavy duty is the bracing on the top? Do you have a picture?

Finally got around to getting some website maintenance done and posted two new albums of recent builds:

http://www.peterjosephguitars.com/Peter ... lanca.html

http://www.peterjosephguitars.com/Peter ... sical.html

Also worked on a new segmented rosette for a current build and two veneer logs for purflings. Getting back in the groove after some surgery in April.

Michael Lewis provided some suggestions on the bracing Keith. 1" at the bridge, 5/16" thick, then more or less violin style. I refined the ends with a longer slope then rounded things off after this pic was taken.

That's quite the jumbo archtop. I assume the strings will go back to the end pin over a heavy duty bridge. How wide is it at the lower bout? Looks just like my #1 except much LARGER. I played bass for many years so this already has me thinking...

I masked the bridge and fingerboard extension on the top of #8, and sprayed a couple light coats of shellac on it. I actually got the 1st few coats of lacquer on it today.

20" at the lower bout Keith. 4" ribs. The body is 22 5/8" long. 34" scale joined at the 18th fret. I used Bill Moll's dimensions which he so generously offered up on the MIMF a few years back. It will have a wood on brass tailpiece. Haven't decided on the bridge yet. Maybe a sliding wedge like Jimmy D'Aquisto, a one piece, or maybe something more traditional. Nice thing about archtops is how easy the bridge is to switch out as they aren't glued down.

Still plugging away at #1.

Finally got the sound port finished. It's probably too big.

I don't have a table saw or a band saw, so dimensioning brace wood is labor intensive. It took a lot of sweat to get to this point.

Halfway through carving a neck. The spokeshave I've been using works a treat.

I have a couple of things going but these three are most of it. The one on the right has been one of those spec guitars that just never gets finished. I have been working on it for almost a year if not more and every time it gets close something sends it back a few steps. It is a groaner for sure.

Attachment:

The one on the left is my sonic sitka guitar and also a new shape for me. I am very excited to get that one strung up. The focus at the moment is the center guitar, a 14" mahogany/Red spruce little guy. It will be getting a full color treatment and sunburst with a black neck. I am making it for a local musician and he has been so great to work with. He wanted something old looking but with a few twists. We added some little half circle details and it will get a big guady white pickguard kind of like some of the old harp guitars. I think it will look great. Here is a shot of the front.

Lastly is another thing I am very excited about. I picked up a new to me but very old bandsaw on craigslist that I will need to do a little work on to get looking good but most of the saw is in great shape. It is a 20" crescent from I believe the late 30's. It may not look so hot here but I really love the shape of these saws. I am excited to have one!

I have also been working hard with a friend on a website which should be up and running very soon, maybe this week.

I love that old bandsaw Burton! I've always been drawn to those since my canoe and pirogue building days, just haven't been lucky enough to have one cross my path.

This last weekend I put together my first rosette. This is a traditional mosaic/veneer lines type. Heres some "rope" I made for edge treatment.

And here's the rosette.

This week I'll continue to work on rosettes hoping to improve my technique.

Congratulations David on approaching a landmark! As usual, no. 99 looks to be a beautiful instrument so far. By the way, what ever became of the Torres "paper mache" replica that you built? That was truly an instructive and informational effort.

Wow Max... great first effort. A beautiful design and great choice of colors. Really nice!!!
