 I am starting a Black locust 00 this fall and was thinking of what I want to make the neck out of. I want to use only domestic woods so Mahogany is out. I was thinking Cherry but would like something closer to the Locust in color so I was thinking of Butternut. Quartered Butternut is probably harder to find than hens teeth so I was thinking of a laminated neck with a Walnut center stripe. Seems like I have read posts about Butternut before. Any one ever try it? Thanks Bill The Greenman

I've turned it. I think it would be a good neck wood.

Petros uses it. I looked for it a few weeks ago when I went the the lumber yard. They only had a few junk pieces. I want to try it myself.

Butternut is an excellent neck wood. I've built laminate necks with it using maple and walnut cores. It is very stable and very light, but weaker than mahogany. Should work just fine laminated with truss rod, although I use carbon fiber rods as well.
