Here's an all Koa guitar I just finished. It's the guitar in a build thread I have on the AGF. I was originally calling it a "Mini-Dread" but I've decided to call this size/shape a 00-D. That sounds......more sophisicated than Mini Dread.
Here's a picture of the ribs inside a Dread mold for a size comparison.

And some of the finished guitar.

Here's a rough recording of it.

Nice looking guitar. Love the koa. I don't, however, see the connection between its shape and a dreadnought...

Cheers,
Pat

The finish is catalyzed urethane. (ML Campbell Euro Series). Varnish is my favorite finish though.

The "connection" is mostly in my head. eek eek I started with a dread template and took 1/2" off all the way around, making the lower bout 14 5/8". Then I broght the waist in some and rounded the shoulders. I also adjusted the length so I can put the bridge in a reasonable location with either a 12, 13, or 14 fret neck. The depth at the tail is 4 5/8" so that's kinda dread like too. Scale length is 24 5/8".

Very nice, Woody! Someday, I am going to build a Koa. So how you liking the shape now you have it done and strung up?

Ken
