I've been ridiculously busy (work + home projects = not much building time...) and hence, my time in the shop has been very limited. Even so, I've been able to get one guitar out, with another on the way right behind it.

This is one I built for my friend Joe. It's a sitka top (this is the stiffest sitka top I've come across) with mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck (made from a great board I found at the local exotic lumber warehouse), madagascar rosewood fingerboard & bridge, curly maple/IRW bindings and cedar kerfing. The finish is gloss EM6000 from Target Coatings, buffed out with my new buffer from Caswell Plating (I'll NEVER hand polish again, that's for sure..!). I grain filled with Zpoxy and sealed it with Shellac. The tropical inlay is one I designed in Rhino and cut on my K2 CNC. It's 46 pieces of white MOP. There's a little bit of filler where I ran into some tolerance stackup issues due to the number of parts, but it came out pretty nice overall. I'm thrilled with the Madagascar RW. It's by far the closest thing I've seen to BRW. I'm not real thrilled with how they source it...given how vulnerable Madagascar is ecologically...but it is beautiful stuff and it rings really well. Oh yeah - it also has a Matrix Infinity pickup. The pickup was really easy to install and sounds great.

It's my best work so far. Good setup and overall good finish quality. There are a couple of finish related sins, but I've garnered some good lessons from this one to carry over to the next. This is somewhere around #12 for me in total out of my home shop. I sold it to my friend for roughly the cost of a nice quality Chinese guitar...so he gets a chance to have something unique looking that sounds great, and I get the opportunity to improve my skills & push my skills along to the next level. I think it's a great deal for both of us...!

Hey Trev. Sweet, sweet guitar. Lots of nice details, FB inlay and rosette. I like the contrast of the curly bindings and the mahogany and the silky top. And a pretty good deal for your friend, too!!

Thanks guys - the rosette is something I did on #2 and it just kind of stuck. It's pretty efficient too - I use off cuts from the back and sides and a little bit of purfling.

Good job. that's cool you've stuck with the rosette design since build 2. So it's become something of a trademark for your guitars now?
