I think Kevin should RAISE his prices. We need to keep the cost of all types of shell as high as we can for as long as possible, in order to maintain a healthy market price ratio between basic unadorned instruments and paua/mop/snail/whatev encrusted works of art.

We've got to keep out the riff-raff! ;)

Dave F.

P.S. I've used Kevin's Zipflex on two guitars now and I LOVE the stuff!! I bought a substantial amount of the 0.047" in various colors when it first came out and will be adding some 0.079" to my stash in the group buy. If there wasn't a group buy, I'd gladly be buying it for a couple bucks more on my own.

Well-thanks-Dave-for-letting-us-in-on-that-you-were-born-under-a-blue-sky- [:Y:] not-all-are-so-fortunate-I-am-afraid.

I-guess-you-are-refering-to-the-chineese-guitars-as-riff-raff..dont-think-they-would-buy-AST-products-even-if-they-would-cost-15usd.!!!.-really-dont-get-your-point.
I-just-think-that-for-those-selling-guitars-for-2000-4000-range-needs-to-be-able-to-afford-this-stuff-to-(and-be-able-to-make-a-profit-while-doing-so)!!
within-this-price-range-I-cant-see-customers-willing-to-add-the-extra-bucks-for-the-bling.-A-little-lower-then-they-would-be-able-to-afford-it-and-it-probably-would-sell-even-better.-
just.thinking-out-loud.-might-be-wrong...

Lars,
You want to know the really cool thing about ZIPFLEX. It is that you DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT!! You can continue to do things just like you always have with real pieces of shell. You can continue to buy and install teflon and black purfling in the channel. (at this point if you substituted Zipflex for the teflon and purfling you would be done, but since you choose not to, YOU ARE NOT DONE, GET BACK TO WORK ) You can continue to spend large amounts of time inlaying small strips one at a time, hoping they break right where you want them to. Nope it didn't break where you wanted it to, it looks like crap right there, pull that small section out and redo it. OOPS you dropped one, dang it shattered all over the concrete floor. Well thats $25.00 down the drain and now you won't have enough to finish( not mine I just keep working) You can..., wait no you can't do that, because you bought too many curved pieces and not enough straight pieces. Guess you are stuck with those 3 extra curved pieces at $25.00 each and will have to reorder and wait for it to come in. I get to keep working because my curved pieces are straight and my straight pieces are curved..... WAIT I FORGOT , I WAS DONE BEFORE YOU EVEN STARTED!!!!

All for the same price. If you can't see value in that then as my Dad would say " He's about as smart as 3 sticks of firewood "

Oh, and I am a poor boy from Oklahoma, but being poor didn't make me ignorant!

Tim, have you even read my posts ?. I cant work, my arm is in a cast !!! second, I have used zipflex, its a real nice product. third. I dont drop my shell so they break :D ;) .
to do those small delicate works like put in shell, is one of the charms in this work. A good example of someone spending lots of time on his guitars is Michihiro Matsuda, "apprentice of somogyi" he takes alot of time to finisdh his guitars, as he wants them to show perfection, and they are pieced of art. I think he makes 12 a year or so. those that are very time concerned are mostly just in it for the sake of money. I am not saying I am Matsuda, but I strive for the same standard. seems like everyone wants to be so fast, instead of concentrating on doing a perfect job.

I got my A4 Linings today, that I ordered last Wednesday, and that stuff is really amazing. I've never seen kerfs that small. They are tiny. It looks like it's almost solid, but with little tiny lines in it. Can't wait to try it. Kevin deserves 3 pages. He seems glad to have our business. Much like our other vendors here at OLF.
