In an earlier thread I mentioned that I was going to build a 0000/M style for my next build. I couldn't find a Martin Jumbo template at the usual suppliers, but did locate a "Martin-style" Jumbo template on eBay, which I used that to build my bending form and mold. Once all that was done, I took the tape measure to the template and discovered that it's not the same size as the Martin 0000/J. The Martin specs are 20 1/8" length, 10" upper bout, 9 3/4" waist, and 16" lower bout. The template that I got is 21" in length, 11 15/16" upper bout, 10" waist, and 16 1/2" lower bout. Since I already have everything ready for the bigger-than-Martin Jumbo, I thought I would just go ahread and build it. Does anyone have any thoughts on how the larger size may impact the sound or playing comfort? I was thinking about using the 4 3/8" depth that Todd used on his build.

Also, I've been thinking about the OLF MJ. What is the depth of the sides on it?

From where did you get your template ? I do have the actual patterns from Martin and can tell you that you can't trust the dimension posted , even off the Martin site. Waldron Guitars ( a sponser of the OLF ) has the templates for Martin also. There is a seller on Ebay stating he has Martin templates and molds but they are not correct to actuall Martin templates.

John...I got the template off ebay and as you said, it doesn't match Martin's dimensions. I did go to the Waldron Guitar site and they and they had a page showing the guitar model statistics for the CAD files. Looks like their Jumbo template is closer to the one I got (20.91 length, 12 12/25 upper bout, 10 11/20 waist, and 16.875 lower bout).

On the Martin dimensions, I did a lot of digging around on the Martin site, but I obviously wrote down the wrong number for the upper bout and waist....10" upper bout with a 9 3/4" waist wouldn't have that nice form that one would expect form such a lady as the M or J. Under the features, it shows that the 0000 / J is 20 1/8" in length and 16" wide.

Oh, and the Waldron Guitar site also answered my question about the depth of the OLF MJ....4 3/4" at the tail block and 4 1/8" at the neckblock.
