One of the things that I didn't plan properly when I built my shop was where to store my guitars and the other guitars that are here.

Some of you may remember that I use these Rockstands from Musician's Friend and have been using them for 6 year now:

I am pleased with the Rockstands in as much as in all of the years that I have used them guitars with nitro, FP, Cat Urethane, and Cat Poly have never reacted to the foam padding. So they work well, are inexpensive, won't damage my guitars but the problem that I have now is a lack of floor space. It also would be great to have my guitars stored in such a manner that my dog, Sony...., does not leave snot on them every time he wants to sniff them..... No jokes please.... :)

So David Collins uses these in his shop and I just bought a bunch of them to use in my shop. These are manufactured by Hercules Stands (http://www.herculesstands.com) and appear to be well made, sturdy, innovative (the front paddles automatically close and lock the guitar in when any weight is placed on the hangers) and they were not very expensive. They do require just like any hanging system that you mount them correctly to your wall or where ever you plan on mounting them.

So I stopped at Lowes on the way home from the Ann Arbor shop yesterday and picked up some stuff to mount my new hangers with. Some lag bolts and some oak boards which will match my oak desk should do the trick.

Other than having to repaint my stinkin wall this morning because I missed a stud by 1/4".... the installation went fine....

If you use a cool product or method to store your guitars either out of the case or for case storage too please feel free to add your recommendations to this thread please?

Thanks and as always thanks for looking. :)

Hesh-
Looks good!
How much do they cost, and did you order them direct or get from another supplier?
Also, what do you figure the minimum separation has to be (for SS acoustics), to avoid guitars bumping into each other?

Cheers
John

Allowing for some flexibility.... get a section of slatwall from your neighborhood Sears:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1260 ... twall#desc

and then get some of the $3 hangers from Ebay for a very versatile setup.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Guitar-Slatewall-Ha ... 3cac1c9777

The hangars can be slid to accommodate various sized instruments such as guitars, mandos, ukes, etc. and also the hangers can be placed on various levels of the slatwall section allow them to be placed closer together if necessary depending upon your needs/requirements.

I already have them but have yet to get it all hung... just another line on my "to-do" list....

Here is an Ikea product that I've been using as guitar storage for my collection as well as in-progress storage for guitars under construction. I have at least two of these and they will easily fit six guitars each.
These are Ikea's PAX line and height is 80" (they make an even taller one if you have the headroom) by 19 1/2" wide and a nice deep 23 1/2".
The shelf is their standard issue "shoe storage" shelf with a lip built in and the interior spaces measure 22 1/2" deep by 18 1/4" wide with heights of 36 1/4" and 38" respectively.
I added the battery operated lights as well as the cloth padding on the bottom of the spaces as well as a notch in the shelf so I could locate it to give me max height for the two spaces and miss the middle hinge location.
These have nice European style spring loaded hinges, leveling feet and are available in a white Melamine finish as well as several other door finish treatments.
About $150. picked up at Ikea.

Hey Hesh-

That's a good idea. Just make sure your doorstop works well or you might inadvertantly play Whack-A-Mole with your lovely black-faced L-00.

Ouch!! wow7-eyes

Peter, that is an absurdly large collection :)

Here's my solution using cheapo String Swing hangers which work very well. They don't lock like the hercules but the foam rings are adjustable and hold the neck securely.

I really need to look into whole-room humidity control but fortunately my house is pretty stable around 40-50%.

There was a time when I was a firm believer in keeping my guitars in their cases but I have learned over the years that I tend to play them a LOT more often when they are sitting out, seducing me with their curves.
