I was a little stunned to come across this over on the 13th Fret. Read the second post by "bearclaw" and follow the links. Is this the same Kevin?

It wouldn't be the first time a news story got the facts wrong. Here's hoping this is one of those occasions.

I've decided to delete my original response.

Lance, Brock, can you lock this thread in protection of Kevin's reputation until he is able to respond for himself?

I see an outbreak here not only of self-censorship, but of the wish to restrain the expression of others. Yet no one (even before they altered their posts) had said anything defamatory.

This is shocking and very sad news, and comes from a newspaper that has been around a long time. We ought to be able to express our reactions to it. Kevin is no less in need of our support now, regardless of the facts. Quite the contrary. But if we are to support our friends, let's support them as they are. We can handle the truth.

OMG! What is going on here? Without the posted articles, this borders on the obscene. Yet, there are those articles. Howard has it the best. It's now more than ever that Kevin needs our prayers. And if true, nothing else.

This is so freaking sad . I hope it's not true.

+1 to Howard's comments. The illness and events are either real or fabricated, either way there is an illness and cry for help, His/our situation was, is and will be in God's hands and I will continue to pray for him, though I am the sort who does not pretend to know what I or anyone really needs, so my prayers are always for guidance and enlightenment that we may see the whole of God's perfect balanced plan and live harmoniously with it.

Well Mike,

Whats going down here is life.

Obscene? ... ummm a posted pic of me pullin a mooner, well now, that would be obscene.

And regarding them articles...so what? People do strange things when desperate.

Was talking with buddy, a paramedic down in Haiti. Him say the only day they did not have to deal with gunshot wounds and machete slashings was the day the US was passing out free food. Ya, people do real strange things when desperate.

Now who here hasn't been in trouble with themselves to some degree and or other at least once in this life? Hmmm.

The only judgment me got here is, him human.

Yes the situation is sad, but then thats part of being human as well.

Yup, Mike, prayer time for sure.

Howard, I certainly agree, and once again you've very skillfully stated something very serious. My request to lock it down might have been quick on the draw . . . I don't know what the right thing is. My fear is that while this is a very real and very internal thing, it could easily find a way to become a hot topic or interesting desk-chair talk. I know you know, but my intent is only that of protection, not to hide it away or isolate it. I know that it's a shock and that discussion around this is something we might need to help ourselves work through it, too. For millions of people, there are things at work inside that make the thought of awakening pretty dang tough, if not impossible. In the spiritual sense, for millions of people, mental illness can make us feel so far from Easter that it's promise seems like nothing more than whistling in the dark, if we can even hear it.

I as well was too quick on the draw to stop this thread out of a flood of mixed emotions and for that I'm sorry. I should never post after a rough day with a tired mind. Howard and Mike hit it right on the head, Kevin needs us behind him now more than ever. And there's not one of us (self included) who is perfect and not messed up in our lives somewhere, somehow. And none of us will be without mistakes in the future either. Kevin, I for one am still behind you Bro!

Maybe "obscene" was a bit over the top. I too, read this when I was tired. In fact, I had to read it twice before it sank in. For those of us with a particular faith, its good to remember (and practice) this:

If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic.

Kevin, if you happen to read this, I hope you understand. Whatever in the world that is going on in your life can, with time, be repaired.

BTW, The Padma brings a certain amount of wisdom to the table on this. And no, do not change your avatar.

Mike

That's a sorry piece of news.

The support expressed above is inspiring and I feel quite fortunate to be connected in even a small way to this group of generous and thoughtful people. Having had a fair amount of direct contact with Kevin over the past year or so, I will confess that this latest turn of events has engendered some feelings of betrayal. However, as others have stated so eloquently, whatever the final outcome to this situation may reveal, Kevin and his family are still in desperate straights and need help now more than ever.

I, too, will continue to hope for a miracle on their behalf.

Can anyone verify the pancreatic cancer? It's important to a LOT of people. This plays ugly no matter how you slice it.

I guess you could call the hospitals he mentioned. If what he says is true, he should be there every day. It is at times like this that you realize this forum is really a community.

However, he has not touched this forum since the news broke. If it were untrue, I would think he or his wife would be in here setting the record straight.

I think everybody feels betrayed at some level by this issue. And the more we think about it and go over it, the stronger those feelings will become.

What is most terrible is that in the future, true requests for support will probably go unmet or at best minimally met. Even worse, those needing help will not ask for it.

Lance and I feel like something should be said from our perch... but honestly I am not quite sure what to say.

Kevin has been a long time friend to both of us and this community. Clearly he is in dire straights to be doing something like this, and in need of whatever support we have to offer. I agree very much with the suspicion that desperation is driving this. I find myself wishing both that this isn't true and Kevin didn't fabricate all of this, and at the same time hoping that he did. Regardless of the facts there are clearly deep troubles with him and his family. I hope that he finds resolution.

I have found the responses in this thread inspiring. You are a great group of folks.

I remain uncertain in all of this. But I was from the start (I can't explain that!). I not a religious man so I can't have faith that God will walk Kevin through this but I do have strong faith in people and do believe that when people see that they have support of others they are able to find the path on their own. Although we all hope that we find the truth in this particular matter, only so we can learn what is the best way to lend support to Kevin and Paula, this incident will in no way affect how I will help others.

I am hoping for you Kevin. All the best!

Shane

I've read through the details posted, it sure seems like desperate times for the Gallagher's and often, desperate times call for desperate measures, right or not. I'm certainly not condoning the apparent actions Kevin has made, but I'm just saying I can understand that sometimes we can't see any other way out.

I find myself hoping that Kevin will come forth and let us know the truth. Forgiveness is the cornerstone of his (mine and many others) faith, and not just faith in God, but faith in mankind. We all long for honesty, truth, acceptance and love and I'm sure Kevin is no different.

ALL men fall. But it's in how they pick themselves up and move forward that defines them.

Kevin, may you find mercy and grace around every corner. Come clean. It's the best thing.

Romans 3:23-24, The Message "Since we've compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we're in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ."

The veracity of that claim is very important to me, as well.

He was logged in on the forum a couple of hours ago, long after this thread was up and running.
