I've been wanting to make one of these for a long time, and we decided to build one for the Miami show. It uses a set of the curliest maple that we had, and a nice Engelmann top. Against the advice of Colin, we decided to sunburst the entire guitar. Also, it is festooned with a fair amount of gold and white MOP.
I am truly embarrassed of the shoddy photography, but the guitar itself turned out fine.
Brazilian bindings, headplate and pyramid bridge.
MOP nut and inlays from Andy DePaule.
Amber horn pins from FIK.
Waverly 3-on-plate tuners w/ ebony buttons.

Thanks for looking, and--again--forgive that lousy photography.

Steve: I first looked at this and thought it was someone else's work. Scrolled through the pictures and when I came to the head stock photo the light bulb came on.Recognized your signature shape...!! Another jewel Steve ...CONGRATS.

That's a little beauty, Steve.

Excuse my ignorance of Martin specs but could you tell me the scale length, body length and lower bout width? Standard tuning or is this tuned up? I'm just starting to draw up some parlor plans of my own and it's been on my brain. And what are you doing for a case?

Thanks.

Superb, Steve! That guitar just reeks with MOJO and I just love the vintage burst.

Steve, that is looking good. Really well balanced with the inlay, maple and burst. Hope it sounds as good too..

Thanks guys...much appreciated.
Kent, I'll have to get those specs for you in a bit.
I can remember this much, that I used a 24.9" scale on this little guy.
More later....

Steve

OK, here's a few specs:
Length (body)- 18 7/8"
Lower bout-- 12 15/16"
Upper bout-- 9 3/16"
Waist--- 7 11/16"
Depth at butt-- 4 3/16"

Or so...

I was forced to measure my mold, as the guitar itself has already shipped to Miami. Kent you can get the plan from GAL, I believe it is plan #8

Hope that helps,

Steve

Steve - I always look forward to your postings with new guitars and this one is no exception. I love the maple, and the burst, too, even if it is dark like the old time archtops that I like so much.

I want to do my next OM like this because it has a kind of boring set of myrtle that could use some dressing up. Do you have pics of the sides?

Thank you, Steve. Yes, I do have some pics, but not my own snapshots. I took this guitar to a photo shoot last week, and haven't gotten that disk back yet. When I do, I'll post some real pix of this guitar.

BEEUtiful Steve!
That shape -
Looks a bit familiar!
Have you had Danny B. take a peek at it yet?

I'm doing more of the 1835 Lacote copies these days -with "pegheds"

Thanks again guys! Ok, there's a couple of questions to answer:

Mike- yes, Danny saw this one. We shipped through his store, so it was natural to pull this out and let him strum a bit. He's been interested to see it finished anyway.

Kent- sorry, I forgot that Q. about a case. Yes, I got a standard "parlor" case from Cedar Creek, and it fit quite well. 13" across the lower bout, so the fit was just right. It's amazing how much smaller this looks against a full sized guitar case. Might almost fit in an overhead compartment.

Again, thank you gents.

Steve

I love it! Seems like you can really tart up a little guitar like that and it looks totally appropriate. Congratulations Steve.

Thanks Terence, and I agree: it does seem that you can get away with a bit more decoration on this style guitar. Probably the historical precedent. I like that phrase, "tart up a little guitar..."
Will have to borrow that one for sure!

Steve

Darrel, we put on light gauge something-or-others. We picked up a bulk set of lights (12-54), which I think are 80/20's, but I'm uncertain of their parentage. Not much help there, sorry. :?

Ron, that "aged" look is probably my lousy photography.
Say--idea striking--anybody want me to turn their guitar into an instant antique? Think "collectible". Just send it down, and for a small fee, I'll make YOUR guitar look like a pre-war. That's Civil War.
Pre Revolutionary will cost a bit more.

Steve

Hi Steve,
Not a bad little parlor picker there! :D I was looking forward to the Miami show
but unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it. It would have been great
to finally meet "the boss" but it's not meant to be this time. That sure is a beautiful
guitar as all of yours Always are!! That burst is sooo sweeet. WTG amigo!

Back now from the Miami show, and thought I'd better check on this thread---glad I did!

Bill, why thankee there, pardner! We shore 'preciate them kind words.

Christoph--many thanks sir! I think the 'burst turned out quite well also...and I can say that because I did not do it, Tony Ferguson did.
I'll let him know (again) he did well!

Dave, Dave, Dave--you mean I flew three thousand miles ( ) , and you couldn't come 3?
Well.
Someone from human resources will be paying you a visit realll soon.
But whatever he says, all will be overlooked due to your kind remarks above. Good to hear from you, and thanks!

Steve
