I'm currently getting an OM body ready for cutting the binding/purfling-channels.

As Joe White is somewhere between 15,000 to 20,000 miles away from me, sending him my guitars is not an option. So I decided to give spraying finish a try and am now busy figuring out how to properly use this new toy: A Sata MiniJet 3000 B HVLP spray gun (the successor of the MiniJet 4, which got only the highest praise).

Not much going on here since the disaster with #1

I have decided to start #2 while using #1 as a test for various things like practicing binding channel cutting etc.

I've been working a lot lately with my regular job so I've had no time to do anything in the workshop except draw out a new template on some perspex for the top for #2 based on Alex Willis plans. I hope to get it cut out soon.

I've just got my first plates joined. The back is pretty well scraped smooth, the top still needs a bit more due to scuffing it in a few places while chiseling off the hide glue squeeze out. Hopefully the joints are good. You can see light through both of them, but it's a thin, even seam the whole way, just as close as the gelled hide glue would let it get. Flexing them, both feel like the wood would snap before the seams, so that's good.

Then it's on to thicknessing, doing the rosette, building a side bender, learnng to bend sides, bending the sides, and then the fun part, bracing. And in the meantime, finishing up that headstock inlay, gluing on the heel, cutting the tenon, and then making the head block to fit the tenon, so I can actually assemble the box as soon as the braces are done, before the top can warp.

Let's see if I can get all that done by the end of the month :)

I've been further refining my fox style bender. It's still using three 200 W lamps to suply heat but hope to switch to heating blanket by this summer.

I got the back of my next harp guitar set up and braced. I gave up on the marquetry based back strip. The only difference between this and my last is the complex neck joint. I am also starting my 14 fret version.

Got the back glued on my 13-fret Walnut 000. Top with braces is in the go-bar deck.

Well, didn't spend too much time in the shop on the weekend. Spent alot of time watching the Masters.

I did get some work done on my first guitar with a bevel.

Top is from Shane - Cedar with a nice light coloured strip going down the centre.

Back is Pau Ferro I go a couple years ago from the swap meet (I think from Peter M if I recall)

Spalted maple rosette and end graft.

Bevel is black with Ebony binding (not the most fun to use - I bend by hand on a pipe)

Here's pics

Well...in the shop, not too much guitar building this weekend. I've been wet sanding out a 000 I reset the neck and resprayed a while back. It's my number 1, so I wanted to get it redone.

Otherwise, I've been building a hall table and a coffee table. Walnut tops and curly maple base. Trying curved legs...

Plus, now that the nice weather is upon us, my trusty helper and I are working on my other hobby...when will I learn?

Jamie, thats a sweet car. I too will be sharing my shop space with an oldie eventually, 68 Dart GTS, any tips for keeping the dust out of her?

We got almost 2 feet on Easter, and since last night, we are halfway through receiving another foot. So my guitar parts will continue to wait for some good weather to glue, progress was so good prior to a few weeks of this weather. I did finish the binding jig, and have some work left on the neck that I will do this week. I do like to take pictures of snow plows in action, this one from our bedroom window.

Finished up the 'Acousticaster' this weekend although I still have to change out the knob on the tone control.

I may add a piezo someday but right now the idea is to be able to swap in different soundhole pickups. I have it set up to use bullet connectors so the swap takes just a couple minutes. The little Jax unit sounds good but is unbelievably microphonic. I may send it out to be wax potted because as it is you can't use it at any sort of useful volume.

Mike the acousticaster looks great! I am running way behind on my challenge build, only just started this weekend, its going to be a tight squeeze. Spent all sunday just making a jig for one operation on it.

Some great work going on all over the place...I need to post some of my guitar photos.

Jason C...thanks, the car is great fun and a blast to drive. It's true what they say, it'll pass anything but a gas station! 396 big block with a garden hose for a gas line.

Edward...as you may be able to tell from the photo, I'm no Hesh when it comes to keeping dust off stuff. I have a cover for the car, but the fine stuff still gets through. Otherwise, just a 2hp dust collector to keep the big stuff off.

This week I had few guitar repairs and I finially finished restoring my widebelt sander. :) I sanded down the quilted maple side wood that I purchased in the OLF Auction a few weeks ago and it came out great.

A before and after pic.

I bought an 8" band saw hoping it would be big enough for my needs.. but when I got it home, the reality was much different. So I re-posted it on craigslist (I found it on craigslist) and sold it for exactly what i paid for it.. so no harm done. While my ad was up however, a guy scoping out prices for selling his band saw came across my ad. In my add I stated the reason for selling it was because it was too small. So this guy called me up and told me he had a 14" he was wanting to sell, and that $200 was his bottom price.. I went and got it that day. It's a 14" Delta and he gave me 4 new blades for it as well, all for $200.. and the saw is in great shape. He said he rarely used it and after getting it, I believe him. I feel like $200 was a great deal for me, and he was happy not to have to actually post an add and deal with no-shows and stuff.. typical craigslist things. So.. I've been re-arranging the shop to get this saw set up where I want it.. also added a shelf under my bench on the dirty side of the shop. Here's a pic of my new addition!

Shhhh Chris we don't want everyone to know.... :D

BTW Robbie's FP class is a great time and an excellent opportunity to stop struggling with FP and learn a method that works very well - highly recommended!

Jason, I am not very experienced with the delta saws but I imagine you got a pretty good price.
Congrats on the new saw! Hope you can handle all the dust. :)
