Well, I finally finished up on #4. It is, as is my tradition, another Romanillos braced, classical. The specs are:

Scale - 640 mm
Back & Sides - Indian Rosewood
Top - German Spruce
Bridge - Cocobolo
Neck - Salvaged from #2 - HOG V-Joint
Bindings & Heel Cap - Bubinga from #3 cut offs
Wenge/Ash purflings plus Marquetry that I made
Top braces - Italian Moon Spruce
Back Braces and back linings - Spanish Cedar
Finish is French polish

Thanks for looking folks. I believe this one sounds better than any of the other three.. I didn't think it was possible, I've been so happy with each one. Maybe it's my moving expectations! I made a few changes to process that made this one a little easier to get done. I'll try to get a sound clip as soon as I can.

Beautiful guitar Waddy! [clap] [:Y:] [clap] [:Y:] [clap]

Few questions for you:

1. What finish did you use? (looks great!!)
2. What make are those tuners? (love them!)
3. Did you make your own marquetry purfling strips, and if so, what are the woods used in them? (again, they look fantastic!)

Cheers,
Dave F.

Beautifully appointed Waddy!! It's all very attractive. Your finishing looks great. Glad to hear they're are all sounding better than the last. Only thing it's missing is the label. :) I'm in need of one also.

Cheers,
Danny

Waddy, looks amazing. How do you route that detail on the top of the headstock?

Thanks, guys! I appreciate the comments.

Dave:
1. The finish is French Polish
2.The Tuning Machines are Sloanes
3. I made all of the marquetry - the woods are mahogany, bubinga, wenge, black dyed ? veneer, Jatoba, Padauk, I think! :D Not necessarily in that order.

Danny, I have a label made, I just haven't put it in the guitar yet.

Chris, I did it with a chisel, and back filled with Cocobolo dust and CA.

Thanks everyone.

Chris, I just realized that I didn't answer your question. I answered one, but not the one you asked. [headinwall] gaah I use a template and route that headstock swoop with a 90* 1/4" V cutter.

Thanks, Jim and Sen.

Sen, I have thought about it, but didn't know how it would look passing through the cut-out at the top. It would show the end grain of the strip. I suppose I could do it, I just haven't felt the need. Maybe, one of these days.

Nice one Waddy! lookin really good - love that finish.
It looks really craftsmanlike.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Waddy, Waddy you have patient to do some very nice rosete, binding and purfling, you have patient to do that nice finish with FP and at the moment when you cat the channel for the tuner you lose patient.

you show us pic and we give you critique (sometimes good sometime bad)

best regards
fric
