Slowly making progress. Finished the ebony backstrap; the only thing hard about that was making a clamping caul for it.

Trying to figure out how I am going to go about setting up and positioning this cyclone that just arrived.
If anyone has an Oneida V-series I would greatly appreciate it if they could answer a couple of my questions.

I've got a Oneida Gorilla which is pretty similar. I recommend you don't install it by yourself, like I did, but I did get it done ;)

Why don't you start another thread, there's several folks here with Oneida collectors that can probably help.

Hey I'm curious, where are you incorporating the balsa in your guitars if I may ask please?

Hey Hesh

I am way from home for the weekend (accessing through a remote). I'll post a picture of my middle layer, made of Balsa and Cedar when I get home on Sunday evening or Monday morning.

Thanks for the comments

I reamed and slotted the bridge pin holes for 5 degree unslotted pins on the 12 fret 000 today and will string it up and complete the nut tomorrow. The bridge was hide glued on last evening and I want to give it 24 hours to cure before putting string tension on it. Monday I will finish buffing the Bubinga OM Wedge and start putting it together.

Here are a few pictures of the 12 fret 000, the lighting is not the greatest for photos on my bench but when it is strung up and the pick guard is on I will take some better ones.

Wow is right - too much very cool stuff to acknowledge it all. [:Y:]

Well I am having a fun weekend with some shop time and I went to my first ever auction.... :?

But first this morning I took my binding out of the bender and now I'm ready to bind this stinkin guitar...

As mentioned the auction was my first ever and having read the listings on the web first I went to this auction to get a wooden tool box, Gerstner is the brand. The area that I live in is very economically depressed these days and there are lots of tools available here at auction pretty cheaply...

So here is what I came away with for $132 and it was the most busy item in the auction with many bidders.

Attachment:
DSC02980.jpg

The pic above is after I cleaned it up... :D with Howard's Feed-N-Wax and vacuumed out the drawers.

Here is the stuff that was inside, nothing really great and much of this stuff I have no idea what it is.... :?

Attachment:

Gerstner want's $50 to date these boxes so they can go drink paddy water.... According to the info about this family who's loot was being auctioned this box is probably around my age - 50ish....

Wadded up and way behind one of the drawers were these. Notice the "terminate" circled. These pay stubs were kind of hidden in the back, underside of the box. Makes me wonder if someone didn't want anyone else to know that they had lost a job. Very sad.

Lastly was this Stanley No 5 plane in terrible shape that I bid $2 for and that took it off their hands.... Of course I am clueless about these things so maybe I just wasted $2 - if anyone sees any hope here please let me know? :D

Attachment:
DSC02977.jpg

So now I have a nice tool box for my smaller, high precision tools and they will be close at hand while I am working.

Let's see some more of what's happening in YOUR shops please?

Thanks :)

Just finished carving the neck and installing the side dots. Just need to do the final sanding. This is a 13 fretter. My first slot head. All done by hand, so it took quite a while to do this.

Hesh, that plane, actually, looks pretty good. Some sanding of the face, and a little clean up of the iron, and the associated parts that hold it in place, shouldn't take too much work. There are some web sites that have instructions on refreshing an old plane. Cool tool box too. I see some good files, some decent looking punches, taps, and a few pretty decent looking picks, if I'm seeing right. Mostly, though, the box is really nice. Good bidding, I'd say.

Tracy,

That looks sweet! You must be psyched to get some strings on it.

You better believe it! But I still have over a month of work to do still. Doing the finish work is always a pain. I'm thinking of doing some hard shellac on the neck, then doing the last few coats of flat varnish. Should be a cool finish that should stand up to the elements. The body finish is hard shellac over zpoxy filler.

I've had a bit of a nightmare with #1 this week. Along with the problems & my day job I'm miles behind.

If you were wondering what the nightmare is that I speak of... Well just think of a 70lb dog jumping onto a workbench and what could happen... :-D

Tracy, that's an exquisite guitar you have going there.

Hesh,

Heck of a deal on that Gerstner!

You probably can't go wrong for $2 on that #5. They say that if you have only one plane, the Stanley #5 is the one to have. That's a fairly recent one, judging by the color of the wood in the tote and knob. If you've a mind and the time, take it apart and clean it up, making sure the machined surfaces are clean, flat and true and of course, flatten the sole. After it's set up, with a good edge on the iron, you'll have quite a serviceable plane, though the iron isn't one of their better ones. You could spring for a Hock iron it you like the plane; if not, strip out the iron, cap and frog and stick some sandpaper on the bottom. You'll have a handy "file".

Pat

Hesh: Machinists or toolmakers toolbox. You stole that.....!In another life I was a machinist so that's how I know about the box.No doubt at one time there were lots of measuring tools in the box but someone else must have aquired those. Also that old Stanley not worth 2 dollars, but being a nice guy I'll give you 3 dollars so that you won't be too disappointed.

I am working on a commission here. I am emailing the customer photos of the build and here are some of them. I can start bracing the top tomorrow. Waddy will recognize some of my purfling! The order of the photos is backwards.

Wow, some really great work here everyone. Good going. I'm chugging along on #4. Installed the end graft, put the top on the rim, first test fit of the neck and started working on the peghead. Gotta get going, I have a bunch of zoot waiting in the wings.

Chris.

Georgie,
It is a shape that a friend of mine uses. I just used his mold and bender. I really like the shape too. Thanks for all the kind words everyone. Just started finishing the neck today with zpoxy pore fill. Got 2 coats on in one day. I'll do the wash coat tomorrow and let stand for a day. Then on to the hard shellac, about 4 coats, then about 3 coats of flat varnish. Should have the neck done next week sometime. Then on the top for the french polish.

Stephen, your making progress and looking good. Love to see what everyone is up to, and some really great projects brewing. Can't wait to see them all finished!
