Love that silverburst Mike!

I just finished closing up the box on an OM. Always a fun step and sign of progress.

Recovered from near-catastrophic cracking due to worm holes on this 40-year-old side for a BRW 12-fret L-00. Worm holes usually run straight through a plate if it's quarter-sawn. These are flat-sawn, and the holes ran for 1/4" to 1/2", nearly parallel to the surfaces of the side, cross-grain and right in line with the bend, which made for weak spots at the upper bout. While filling them before bending, I didn't make the connection. I got cracks while bending, but CA, creative clamping, and some work with the hot pipe saved the side.

plus I've been trying to match the linen tape on old martins for this '48 D-28 restore... Pictured is NOT the correct tape for the job. Any links to the real stuff is appreciated... btw Martin won't give it up.

I used brown cloth ribbon from Walmart for $1.49, and drenched one side of it with gorilla super glue.

This weekend I closed the box on my second, a mahogany 00.

My wife thinks I'm ridiculous when I play around with the parts (for hours) laying them together to get an idea of how everything will look...

I know that there are many opinions on the topic of workbenches some of them rather strong. For me, I needed something that was definitely functional and practical but also aesthetically pleasing. My version of the workbench is a variation of a traditional bench and it's....finally DONE! Back to the guitars.

now that's a great looking workbench !

I finish gluing up three tops today for the 2 guitars I am making :D - I used Shane's wood - and it is excellent ! I can't wait to thickness all three - I joined the packing top he sent - thanks Shane ! Hopefully I won;t have to use too much of the packing material to make soundhole reinforcements etc....

I got some French polish work done on #4. But I also had to re-fret the fingerboard above the 12th. I had a slight radius in it that was creating havoc with the middle strings which are apt to rattle a little anyway, and filing frets wasn't getting it done.

Waddy I like your work area, cluttered like mine, I'm glad I'm not the only one who really gets into his work and not spending all the time putting things away. I keep getting more storage but I seem to get more stuff to store so it never ends.

Now that I have my guitar projects out of the way I can turn my attention to getting paid work done.

Oh, yeah, and I am finally getting some work done on my wife's Viola da Gamba project! I have the mold made, the back and sides prepared. The sides are bent and the c and lower bout sections are in place. The neck is under way and rough carved, I have to prepare the drawing for the carving that adorns the back of the scroll. I thought that I had the top plate assembled until I decided to change from using cedar back to its historical spruce/pine, so I need to make a new top plate.

I'll take some current photos when I go back to the shop after lunch and post them later.

I started building in a shop that was too full to do any work in. I threw out a bunch of stuff, then moved in guitar making stuff. Being a pack rat, does not help the situation. Yesterday, I spent 30 minutes digging the nut out of the trash can, where it fell. I have to put my trash can somewhere else besides under my work area, but it's so convenient! I always tear open the bag on my vacuum, to see what's in there before I toss it. I know of three things awaiting retrieval now! [headinwall] :D

I have been scrambling to get this little guy done. All that is left is the neck!

I am also enjoying my new wall mounted press for installing the frets. I had it loose before but the added structure of the wall and bench make it much more reliable.
