I need help interpreting this diagram. It's on the inside of the wire cover for the electrical motor on my Grizzly tablesaw. I am converting it from 110v to 220v. I THINK I know what it wants me to do...but thinking I know could get me killed...and I ain't up fer that!

So someone please help me?

Chris

FYI - I've already wired the new mag switch to the saw and the 220v circuit is already there. I just need to complete it by changing the motor.

So what do you think it means?
The pic isn't very clear, but it looks fairly simple.
For 220v- red and white are line, and the yellow and black are tied together...as far as I can see from the pic.

What does your line wiring into the motor look like- color-wise?

Cheers
John

Coming into the motor from the mag switch is a green (ground) plus a red and a black (now both hot since it's 220v).

AND..what you stated is exactly what I am thinking.

The colored dots correspond to the wires coming OUT of the motor. My guess is that the red (coming out of the motor) is a hot line and the white (coming out of the motor) is a hot line. Then the yellow and black are just simply tied together.

??

Now the Padma ain't no sparkie,
However, this is what me would do.

First turn I would off the power to the saw, and I don't mean on the saw....I'd pull the circuit breaker.

When looking at the inside wires, according to the diagram I should see that the left hand pole or terminal is connected with
a red and a yellow wire.
a middle pole or terminal with no wires connected
and a right hand pole that has the black and the white wires connected to it.

If this is correct
then I would
disconnect the black wire and the yellow wire and join them together on the center pole or terminal.

Then I'd flip the breaker
turn on the saw.

Of course an electrician will do this for you for about $50 bucks or what ever their hourly rate is now days.

Any body else gotta a different take on the situation?

duh

Sounds like we have a 'consensus of three' here!
What's happening is that there are two motor windings that go in series for 220v and in parallel for 110v.
You should be 'good to go'...

Thanks a bunch you smart folks!.... bliss

I tested it and it works. Had my wife standing over by the breaker ready to flip it if something went bad.

THANKS!
