It's snowing here to beat the band finally!!!!! [clap] [clap] [clap] [:Y:] :D I am actually pretty excited about it and was up at 5:30 this morning and in the shop doing what I love - guitar building.

While I am waiting for another 3-4 inches to fall so I can run my new snow blower again... :) I just thickness sanded and joined a couple pieces of mystery wood for a rosette.

This time let's give others a chance who are not the usual quick-on-the-trigger sorts like me.... laughing6-hehe ... :?

For my next vac bag when it's full and I change it can you name this stinkin wood?

Hint: it's from Brazil and no it does not wear a thong......

Wow - I knew that the lighting was a little orange and I used no flash but I had no idea that this would be difficult.

Maybe. It think OO mostly grows as small trees and is hard to get properly quartered or in sizes sufficiently large for backs. There is a bunch of the stuff, flatsawn, at Owl Hardwood in Des Plaines, but I passed on it - the stuff is plain ugly, utterly deviod of figure, and a color reminiscent of farm raised improperly aged fish fillets. OTOH if the trees are big enough, it might be worth having a look, and maybe there is enough variability in trees that you could get something nice out of the deal. You won't be saving any money though, with gas and time and processing of the wood all thrown in... Just my opinion, it might be a fun project.
