people gather around in small groups and jam , then move on to join another set of musicans . you can jam on blue grass till 2-3 am and not hardly play with same musicans twice if you choose . this was early on and as I was leaving the road was backed up with people showing up to play . saturday is elbow to butt musicans jamming.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
